Upsetting-Crescent

Just had to vent. We stopped in CBC recently, and did not have an appt. We asked if it was possible to meet with someone. Well, the two individuals that came out to talk to us (not even invite us into an office, or show us anything) pretty much looked at us,chuckled and told us we couldn''t afford them. Now, granted, we are having about 100-120 and wanted a May/June Saturday, but they had the nerve to practically say they would have to charge us $350 per person. Now, I understand that they could most likey get a larger party, but the tactless and rude way they went about it was disgusting!!!! I''m so glad we found out now....and not later!

I had an appt a few months ago, and they said that if I wanted to have a party for 100 in June, it would be over $300 pp. It`s a nice place, but that`s ridiculous. The manager did spend a lot of time with us, but then and tried to pressure me into having a winter wedding there, but I didn`t want to. I found him to be a typical salesman - really aggressive and made a few rude comments. There are so many LI places to choose from, you be able to find a nice one that will not break the bank.

We were told by the catering manager at Chateau Briand that WE would have to learn to be more flexible and accommodating with our date and preferences...please. Turns out we found a beautiful place that we absolutely love! Don't let that bother you! Your wedding will be beautiful...

Same thing here but I called on the phone to inquire about a June wedding and they told me if I only was having 100 people it would be over $300.00 pp. They said they could book a bigger party so mine wouldn't be worth it. Nice way to do business!!

My CBC experience - LONG

i looked at the CBC a few months ago. i went by myself because FI was away (big mistake). they really put the pressure on and basically told me if i don`t book now for my summer 2002 wedding there will be no dates left. they 'claimed' that there were only 2 fridays left in the month of june. and if i don`t put a deposit down it might be gone tommorrow due to all the appointments. i felt overwhlelmed and left a $1000 deposit. i felt sick to my stomach when i left there because i was not at all in love with the place. i really like the idea of an outdoor cocktail hour on the beach, but was not impressed w/ the inside cocktail room. i posted a message on this board awhile back after visiting CBC and left my email (stupid). a day later i received an email from some guy, ranting and raving about CBC. i went to look at a few other places, found 1 i loved (rain or shine) and called back to have them credit my card. the receptionist put the 'head' manager on the phone, who tried to talk me out of cancelling and then had the nerve to ask me what places i was looking at. i did not tell him because when i was there originally they bad mouthed another reception hall that i had mentioned. so the point of my long tale is that you are definitly not alone, i felt the bad vibes as well.

Another option

Why not try Sail Harbor, which is also in Bayville? I went to a wedding there last week, and it was great! The food was outstanding, and the service was excellent. Just a thought...

We also had weird CBC experience..

We looked at CBC for our June wedding & while I had no problem with the managers attitute, there were some things that rubbed me the wrong way....he did bad mouth EVERY other place we told him we were looking at, which I thought was unprofessional & he talked for about 15 minutes (no joke!) about how great the CHAIRS were in the dining room. that the CBC chairs are at over 2 inches wider than chairs at other places (what?!). anyway, the outside is obviously gorgeous, but the inside was just OK. plus, i think that i would have been very upset in the event of rain, since the whole appeal of the place is the beach. good luck - you''ll find something perfect!!

FYI- my fiance and I looked at CBC about 4 months ago, and we were looking for a Fri./Sat. in June. At that time they also told us there was only 2 left! We did not get a good feeling from the salesperson, and he also bad mouthed our other(better) choices. Not worth getting upset over, there are so many places in LI. Good luck!

Getting married at the Crescent this summer

I`m sorry to hear about all the negative experiences. When we looked at CBC, we just fell in love with the view. Yes, the managers are arrogant, but the food and service are excellent. Even though it does rain, you can still enjoy the view and can go outside under a covered deck. But I do wish the managers would get a attitude adjustment. Good Luck to everyone.
