Sorry I'm confused. Is Miss used to denote someone who's available? And Ms. is someone who's dating but not married yet?

Re: Usage of Miss vs. Ms.
I believe Miss is someone who is unmarried and I believe that Ms. is someone that divorced or something. Not quite sure myself but that's what I've been told? I use Miss G******* for my students.

It is actually an age thing... im not sure what the cut off is... i think maybe 18...
so miss for single women under 18, Ms. for single women over 18....

Re: Usage of Miss vs. Ms.
Miss is really for an unmarried woman. It may be used for a young woman.
Ms. is used for either a married (Mrs.) or unmarried woman (Miss). It is a polite way to address a woman without pointing out whether she is married or not.
Ms. is usually the 'proper way' (especially in a professional environment) to address a woman.

I agree - I address all my unmarried single friends as Ms. just because they're all in their 30's and I personally didn't want to be called 'Miss' after I hit 20

I used MIss for anyone who wasn't married and Ms. for anyone who was divorced, separated, etc.

Re: Usage of Miss vs. Ms.
I personally always use Ms. for myself (who has never been married) but is a professional and engaged. I use Miss for all kids under 18.
