Re: usher v. groomsman???
all groomsmen are ushers, but other men at the wedding can be ushers as well... they just escort people to a certain side depending on if they are there for the bride and groom

It's sorta like having hostesses, they're not necessarily a part of the bridal party but they're people you want to include. Groomsmen are ushers but you can add a few more ushers to direct people to their seats, they're not recognized on the program or anything but it's an honor in that you enlisted them to help on your big day. Same with hostesses at the reception, they can help with the card table if necessary but they're not bridesmaids. You can ask ushers to wear a suite and tie matching your color scheme and/or they can wear whatever they want. HTH

Re: usher v. groomsman???
since FH and i are only having a best man and MOH, we are making my 2 brothers ushers and putting them in tuxes (they actually have no idea at this point, nor do they really care lol). i honestly dont know what is the etiquitte, but if you have more people that you'd like to include, i'd do it and i dont think they need to wear tuxes.
