ushers...

what is the deal with ushers? How many should you have? What are they suppose to do? Just seat guests? And should they be in tuxes like the rest of the bridal party?

Re: ushers...

Ushers is the same as Groomsmen, or so I thought. I am having the same amount of ushers as I do girls. They will be paired up with my BMs for the procession and recession. The guys have to be at the ceremony site a half hour early. The ushers/GM are supposed to seat the guests. They will be in tuxes, although NOT the same as my FH and will match the bride's maids dresses. They will be in my pics too!

My usher (i only have 1) will wear a tux, although I don't believe they HAVE to. They can wear a suit.

They don't really seat the guests, but may direct them to the brides side/grooms side, etc. .
Also keep the flow of traffic going
Meet and Greet
Walk down Mothers, Grandmothers, etc. . .
And any other tasks you may have. . .

Just wanted to add. If you already have groomsmen, I don't think you'll need ushers, UNLESS of course you have a few extra guys you want included. Then I would just have them in suits and go to the church and seat guests. That's all I would do, I wouldn't go any further with that. JMO!

Ushers vs. Groomsmen

An usher is not technically a GM, but often a GM is called an Usher. So if you have GMs but also an usher, it will suit the purpose I first posted. If you have Ushers as your GMs, then follow OctBrides example.

Re: ushers...

I have no GM, only a best man. I have a few brothers & friends that I want to include but dont want to exclude anyone so I was going to ask them all and let it be their option.

few? how many?
Do you have bridesmaids?

Re: ushers...

want to say, if you have a lot, then you should probably treat them as GMs, not the traditional Usher.

Re: ushers...

6 guys and I only have a best man and a maid of honor. I didn't want to add them as GM because then I have girls I have to add as BM. This whole thing is getting messy!!!

Re: ushers...

IMO, 6 is too much for all of them to be Ushers, they will have nothing to do, and will look awkward standing around unless you have alot of guests(more than 300)

Otherwise, you can do like nrvbrd, and have like a Knights whatever they call it, when you only have men as GMs w/no BM partners.

Liz, we are like RIGHT THERE you and me!

Re: ushers...

I thought 6 would be too many also, but I dont know what else to do. If I ask them to be GM then I have to ask 3 other girls to be BM and there goes my whole plan of keeping my bridal party at the absolute smallest

Re: ushers...

How about something like this:

4 Ushers (2 standing around to meet and greet, 2 to walk down Mothers, Grandmothers)

2 to do Readings (poems, verses, whatever)

ALL IN SUITS, NO Tuxes

Re: ushers...

The 2 that walk down Mothers will sit down afterwards, the other 2 will stand.
Readers will be sitting.
