Using fish in Centerpieces

Using fish in Centerpieces

Ok, so when we first started talking about centerpieces, someone had mentioned to me that they used fish in their centerpieces. I mentioned this to FI and he actually liked the idea. Problem is, what do you do with them afterward???

I nixed the idea for the centerpieces in the main dining area, but I'm thinking that doing them for the CH centerpieces outside might not be such a bad idea (I would use goldfish since yellow is one of my colors).

What do you ladies think? I guess I could take them home myself afterward and get a fish tank for them or maybe offer them to guests if they would like to take one home?

I attached a pic of what i was thinking of doing.

EDIT: Pic didn't attach... let's try again

I think this is adorable. Just have a back up plan if guests don't take them. If you don't mind keeping them afterwards I say go for it! Just have a place to put them when you get home!

i think its a cute idea, but like you said... what are you going to do with all the fish (altho taking them home yourself and putting into a larger tank is a cute way of having wedding memories)

but also, what happens if some of the fish dont make it and god forbid turn belly up during the wedding... kinda gross thing to look at as a guest...

like i said, love the idea... but i just think it can go wrong easily...

if you want something diff for your cp's... i had birdhouses... they were the most adorable things ever... and guests were fighting over them at the end of the reception...

ETA: Here's a pic of my cp's:

Those are ADORABLE! Great idea,

And I was thinking about the problem of one of the fish taking a turn for the worst in the middle of the reception. Not a good look.

My original option for the outdoor CP was basically the same thing with the river rocks but with a floating candle on top. We'll see.

My friend did this at her wedding, and I thought it was a great idea. Towards the end of the wedding while everyone was up dancing, they took the centerpieces with the fish away from the table and as people left they gave the goldfish in one of those little aquariums to whoever wanted to take them home. I thought it was cute because alot of adults took them for their children. The wedding was over a year ago, but I still have pics. FM me if you want to see, and I'll send you the pics.

I think that is great idea! Really cool! If you are having kids at your wedding even more fun for them a little present at the end of the evening for guests. Love it!

I worry about the fish dying halfway through. And who is going to be taking care of these fish before the CH is set up? Will the florist work with these or will you have to make your own fish friendly CPs? Will the RH be willing to take responsibility of the fish and set them up? Take them down and make sure they are safe? I just don't think it's worth it to use animals in weddings at all- whether it's a dove release or a fish centerpiece or otherwise.

And actually my co-worker just asked me 'What if some of you're guests have one too many and decide it's a good idea to give the fishies some beer?'...

I'm thinking there might be too many cons with this one... i think i'll just stick to my floating candle idea instead lol

Thanks for the advice ladies!

I went to a wedding two weeks ago and when we first got into the RH the centerpieces looked awesome, they were large glass containers with rocks and fish, but then once we got to our table and sat down we realized the fish at our table were dead. The MOH came around with a spoon and removed all of the ones that had died (we weren't the only table with dead ones) because everyone was talking about it. The ones that lived looked great but you never know. Sorry to be a downer I just wanted to let you know what I had seen.

Thanks! I think after talking it over with you ladies I am definitely deciding against this.

I thought about this idea too- But you never know how long they will last....I Had a gold fish FH bought me for 1.99 and it lasted me like 5 years- it was a fluke thing.

I like the Idea because it is different- but what if no one wants them? What will you do with them? Or if one kicks the bucket in the middle of the reception what do you do?

I think its a cool idea but might not work too well.
