I need a GOOD vacumm, the one i have is not cutting it and there is dog hair EVERYWHERE.. I want to invest in a GOOD vacumm but i dont know where to start, do any of you ladies have any reccomendations for me?

Suzanne, you HAVE to get the DYSON vaccuum. It's pretty pricy, but they have an special heavy duty one ESPECIALLY for pet hair/dander. It's new to America from Europe, it formerly was ILLEGAL in the US b.c it was so powerful!! I know for a fact they sell it in Sears b.c I was looking at it last week. There is a bright yellow one and a purple one. You want the purple one! It is exactly what you are looking for. Edited to add link:DYSON

I LOVE my ElectroLux!! I actually bought it on Ebay brand new!! the price was right! They are expensive vacumm cleaners but they will last you a LONG time!!!
here is a brand new one on Ebay for $1,025...that is a great price considering a new one in the store cost $1500-$1700!!

Cheryl, i was just at sears.com looking up the dyson, its only 500.00 (not that thats cheap, but compared to 1700 it is )

We're in the process of looking at vacuums. It's a tossup between the Dyson Animal and the Hoover V2, but I'm leaning towards the Hoover. By the end of the year we'll have hardwood floors with area rugs, no actual carpeting, so I'm concerned the Dyson's suction might be too much.

Jenny, I have hardwood floors, is the dyson not good for them?
I have a Kenmore...I really love it...it has a little red light that goes off...if nothing is being ****ed up...so you know the area is clean...
it also has all the attachments too...which cat loves...(she sheds more than the dog)...so I sweep her over once in a while

Suzanne, I don't know how the Dyson is on hardwood floors. My concern is the area rugs. We'll most likely be getting aubusson rugs and they're not 'plush' like regular carpeting, so I'm concerned that the Dyson will have too much suction. (I have to look into the Hoover's V2 suction as well. If it's packs a punch like Dyson's Animal, than I may even have to reconsider that one.) As for on the actual hardwood floors, I just received the Hoover Floormate as a gift and I love it!!!

What about the Kirby? My mom has one and loves it! It is a very heavy stainless steal and I think it's in the $500 range. Also, it comes with a lifetime guarantee.

I have the Dyson Animal (the purple one) and it's awesome. Actually the Dyson what other bagless brands based their models on.
Picks up EVERYTHING.
I use it on the hardwood floors as well. There are two settings, one for carpet and one for bare floors. I use the bare floors setting for the wood and for the area rugs. Not damaging in the slightest.
I LOVE IT!! Looks cool too like a 'Barbie' vacuum or something.
Haven't used the carpet cleaning attachment yet.

Check out the Miele vacuums. We have hardwood floors and I find the upright canisters to be very difficult to use on them. The miele is great and it has a great attachment for the hardwood floors. They sell them at Fortunoffs. They **** everything up., don't scratch up the floors, and are easy to maneuver. They range in price from $309 to $589.
