Well, since the untimely death of our vacuum cleaner, we are in the market for a new one. We need an upright one with tools to clean our furniture. We also have two cats, so there is a lot of stuff to vacuum. Can you recommend a good vacuum cleaner that will clean up dust and cat hair from the rug and furniture? We are willing to spend up to $250. Thanks!

I know you're looking to spend around $250, but I highly recommend the Dyson DC07:
It's double the price, but it's an awesome vacuum!

Is the dyson one a power drive/self propelled vac??? I HATE the ones that aren't...I exhaust myself pushing them around!

I bought the other Dyson- the yellow- and it is the BEST vacuum EVER! It is a little more expense than other vacuums, but well worth the price!!

I got the yellow dyson. It is awesome - I cant believe all the 'stuff' that comes up from my carpet. You can get it at LNT. I got mine there and used a 15% off coupon i got in the mail. They also accept competitiors coupons like BBB. That was the best deal i could find for that vac.

Can someone tell me if its a power drive or self propelled(the dyson)??????Meaning, does it basically move itself with you guiding the handle or do you really actively have to push it around??????? I want to buy a new vacum, but I want a self propelled one.......

You push it around, but the vacuum is fairly light compared to others.

Thanks for the advice! I've been so busy the last couple of days that I never checked on to LIW. But we are now in desperate need of one since the cleaning lady made a surprise visit and couldn't clean out furniture (but had to enough to clean anyway since we did not pick up the apartment). So I hope to convince DH to go vacuum cleaner shopping this weekend. I will show him this thread!
