Veggitarian question

ok, do vegitarians eat fish? if so, how can they say they dont want to eat animals while a fish is an animal...

Re: Veggitarian question

Real vegetarians don't eat fish but they do eat dairy. Vegans don't eat ANY animal products, including butter.
Those who eat fish, I don't know what they're called, healthy eaters?

Re: Veggitarian question

I believe technically a vegetarian eats no meat...just veggies. If they eat seafood, they shouldn't be considered vegetarian.

Re: Veggitarian question

no, a vegetarian in the true sense of the word, does not eat fish.

they have created some new (fun!) names that are intended for what, i don't know since it just leads to confusion, such as yours.

such as pesce vegetarian - is someone who doesn't eat cow or poultry but eats fish.

why do you ask?

Re: Veggitarian question

goldilocks hit the nail on the head.

true vegetarians do not eat animal, by land or by sea. the real term is lacto-ova vegetarians because we eat dairy and eggs.

vegans eat nothing with animal products at all.

people who eat fish and are calling themselves vegetarians are either fooling themselves or don't understand.

Re: Veggitarian question

There are different degrees of vegeterians. Pesco vegetarians do not eat red meat, but do eat fish, eggs and dairy.

The other end of the spectrum is a vegan...they eat no animal flesh and no food of animal origin. My old co-worker was a vegan; she was even particular about the kind of wine she drank (apparently, some sort of animal product is used when making red wine).

Re: Veggitarian question

I think the idea about eating fish comes from the fact thtat a fish brain is so small that they don't have the section that registers pain or memory...

Re: Veggitarian question

there are a ton of new terms.

lacto-ovo vegetarian...veggie who eats eggs and consumes dairy.

ovo vegetarian...only veggies and eggs - no dairy.

lacto vegetarian...only veggies and dairy - no eggs.

pesce vegetarian...no land animals - eats fish. i call these - PESKY vegetarians.

Re: Veggitarian question

my best friend is a vegan. you'd be amazed at what she CAN eat.

i'm a vegetarian. i like butter and chocolate milk too much.

Re: Veggitarian question

um, fish do register pain (based on numerous research). i don't know where that small brain thing came from.

Re: Veggitarian question

yes, fish know pain...

and memory is a relative term. but fish have some memory as well.

Re: Veggitarian question

I don't eat fish, b/c I don't like it...but I thought I heard that somewhere...

Re: Veggitarian question

no worries yabbo! i've heard it to, it's just not true though.

sometimes people make stuff up to justify why they do things, and that is probably one of them!
