Has anyone attempted to make their own headpiece/comb/veil combo? I imagine it works best for simple ones, but I read somewhere it's very easy to do. Just wondering if it's worth the effort?

Re: Veil - DIY?
I was thinking about- I have a friend who is really gifted at that kind of thing. Still not sure though because I havent picked a dress yet and I am not sure how complicated of a veil I want.
I know that they make patterns for them- I saw them at Joann's craft store.

Re: Veil - DIY?
My mother has made all of the veils for my sisters and will be making mine also. I'm having a mantilla, which she said is very easy.
According to my Mom the trick for edgeing your veil with lace or ribbon is to sew the ribbon on first (with a large seam allownance) and then trim back the veil fabric to a regular/small seam allownance.

I'm gonna attempt to make one. I ordered the supplies yesterday. Here is the website I'm using to help me. I also think the hardest part in the edging. Veil. HTH

My mother did mine too. Same directions as above link. Went very well, 2 layer. She is working on the beading now. Make sure you get a good sturdy comb. Ended up coting under $20 total.

Re: Veil - DIY?
Oh wow. I don't know the first thing about sewing. I better learn if I plan to make a veil!!! And here I thought all I'd need is a glue gun.
I have no idea what kind of veil I want. I don't even have a venue yet, let alone a dress, let alone an idea about the veil I really need to select the venue this weekend b/c all the dates are running out, I am just sure of it.
back to the veil..........I guess my only thoughts were simple, maybe the 'fingertip' (?) style. I guess it will depend on the dress. What do you do with the veil after the wedding? I always hear all about preserving the dress, but nothing on the veil. I wonder if you couldd keep the veil and redesign it for a daughter's communion.
It sounds like it's fairly easy, maybe, once I learn how to sew. My mom and grandma know how to sew, I think. They've both made curtains, but I don't know if it's the same thing. I want to try it. Maybe I cold do a small scale test run or something for my niece's doll
