I stopped in at Tri county flea market because I saw a post here once that they had a booth with wedding stuff.
I was told for what I am looking for (cathedral and fingertip length veils with rhinestone accents and ribbon edge) with the 3 veils (including blusher veil) it would cost 240$ I have no clue what the prices for veils are so im just trying to find out if this sounds good and where else you guys think I should look. I am only paying 200 for my dress.

Re: Veil shopping
I was kind of tired this morning when I typed my reply. Anyway, Veil row as they call it, is store after store of veils, at least this is what I am told. I haven't been there yet. Does anyone know of these stores and if there are alot of them and if I am correct on the street?

Re: Veil shopping
I ordered my veil and headpiece Memorial Day weekend on 40th Street, between 7th and 8th and I think I got a good deal. It is a really small shop, I think called C&H. There are a bunch of veil shops on that street...pretty much one after another. The lady there spoke broken english but was very helpful. I brought pictures of my gown and she was so helpful in helping me pick the veil and headpiece that would match.
I also went to the area Jennbaby referenced. There are a bunch of shops on the block by Lord and Taylor. Between 5th and 6th on either 36 or 37th streets (can't remember). My friend bought her veil and headpiece on that blok.
I ordered a cathedral and a fingertip (that is double so I can us it as the blusher) veil. It was trimmed (not ribbon though)... all ivory. I also had to get extra length on the fingertip layer. Since my dress doesn't have that long of a train I didn't have to get extra length on the cathedral length veil. (although we did consider it...I brought up this topic awhile ago). I also ordered a crystal, rhinestone and pearls headpiece. She is also going to sew the fingertip onto the headpiece for me (I plan on wearing it all night). The total price was a little under $300. I thought that was pretty good.

Re: Veil shopping
How funny bridetobe CH Bride is where I am suppose to go to get my veil. My girlfriend is a clothing designer in the area and that's the place she recommeds to all of us and many of my friend's have gotten their veils there. CH Bride (speak to Kim) 241 W. 40th (bet 7 & 8th) 212-944-8477. I haven't actually gone yet (been so **** swamped). tarakinspa there is also two other stores right next door to CH Bride so you can always check out all three. Good luck.

Re: Veil shopping
Yep, Kim is who I dealt with. There is only her and, I think, her husband both times I went in. How funny...I just stumbled upon it when I was on my way to RK Bridal one day.
You can get your veil so quick. She can get it to you in two weeks if you want. I asked to pick it up the beginning of July b/c I have no place to put it before then (my wedding isn't until October).

Try www.glamgal.com Tara. Ann, the owner, is super helpful and very nice to deal with. Plus she has beautiful headpieces too. I wish I saw them before I got mine.

Re: Veil shopping
bridetobe: do they custom make the veils? do they have a large selection? do they have 2 teir detachable cathedral veils? (where the cathedral part comes off and you are left with the shorter veil) or did you get 2 seprate veils? this is exactly what i am looking for! i also want pearls and sequins on my veil! i eagerly wait your response. Re: Veil shopping
Jennbaby I have some info for you. My friend said they say they can custom make any headpiece and any veil. But why don't you call them and give them your exact discription and see what they say, here is the number 212-944-8477.

detachable?
I didnt even know that was an option. I want a cathedral and fingertip but i will need to remove the cathedral for reception, is it cheaper to get just one peice? Let me know how you make out in the city, I want to see if i can find something around here before a make a trip to manhatan though

Re: detachable?
C&H will do whatever you want. They will add rhinestones, pearls, etc. or any trim/edging, any color to a veil. She has all styles and will customize anything to suit your needs.
They had a large selection of headpieces and will make whatever you want. For example, the headpiece I picked has white pearls and they are making it will ivory pearls.
I ordered the 2 veils: double fingertip and cathedral. I am having the fingertip sewn on to my headpiece and the cathedral will be velcro'ed on so I can remove it after the ceremony. As far as price I am not sure what is the cheapest or easiest way to go.
I went in with pictures of my dress and of me in my dress and my swatch as well as pictures from magazines of veils I liked. She sat with me for like an hour as we tried on headpieces with different styles of veils. She was very helpful and offered her suggestions of what she thinks was best without ever being pushy or sales-y. At thought I wanted a silver edge but she thought it would look bad. We decided on ivory but she said we can always change it later if we needed to.
Not sure if this answers your questions..hope it helps. Let me know if you need more info. I wish I had pictures to show you. If I have time after work one day this week, maybe I can go in and take pictures with my digital camera. I do not work too far away. Although I maybe working late all week! :(

if you click on forum mail under someone's post, you can send them a private message. it actually is kind of good since it can eliminate all the back and forth postings between individuals on this board. if you have a message, it tells you when you sign in. enjoy!
