Veils cost how much?!?

So I went to look at veils today. I went back to the place I bought my dress from since they are holding it for me until alteration time, and I wanted to try on my dress with a few different veils.

I seriously cannot believe how expensive veils are. My mom and my grandma loved one veil on me, and I loved it too, but I would need to add a blusher to it and before I knew it, I was spending like $300 on a veil that is going to be taken off after the ceremony. How can tool seriously cost so much?!? My mom and I are looking into making one, but I'm worried about matching the veil to my dress. Anyone recommend any places for a less expensive veil?

take lots and lots of pics of the veil you like, then go to Barron's in Tri County. They will custom make a veil for you for around $100 if not less... Mine is only $75 for a cathedral veil no blusher

thanks!! maybe ill have to make another trip out to the island and look there. i took a few pictures, but i'm not sure if it's enough for them to make a similar veil. I'm more worried about the color. Did you just request a veil in the same color as your dress?

they have alot of veils at their shop as well, so you can always try others on and see if you like those, and they can re-create it for you... and yeah they show you a group of like 4 of 5 veils in different colors and you pick the one closest to your dress.. there was like white, diamond white, off-white, ivory, etc.

definitely go to barron's. i would have gone there for my veil if village bridal didn't give me a $200 credit towards a veil. the veil i chose was $368, but came out to less than $168 (they had given me another small credit because they screwed something up).

i was always told the veil should match the top layer of your dress. for instance, some dresses are champagne with an ivory overlay - you would go for an ivory veil.

thanks so much for the information!! Hopefully if I bring a picture of the dress they will be able to help me match! In the store, the veils that matched were ivory, so I'm hoping there aren't a crazy amount of shades of ivory.

as long as the veil is not whiter than the dress than you're fine. They told me that if the veil is whiter then the dress looks dirty. So to be safe, go with something that might be slightly darker than your dress :)

If you decide not to get a custom veil, David's Bridal has veils that are around $100. Some of them are really nice. They may not hold up as well as a $500 veil, but hey, like you said, you only need it during the ceremony and then you're done!

I would say Barron's I took a look in there after I had already gotten mine from Davids Bridal, and they had a great selection, and seemed the most reasonable.

The veil I'm getting has a lot of crystals on it. The bridal stores wanted anywhere from $600-900!! I'm paying $300 at Barron's. Definitely check them out, but go soon b/c like other brides mentioned, the veil takes a couple of months.
