I just found out my RH requires all Vendors to have liability insurance of 1 million dollars!! That sounds so high to me but maybe its typical? Is this the case? I´m on a tight budget so most of my vendors are not going to be big time companies!! I hope I can find someone who has this and I can afford.

All halls require vendors to have their proof of insurance on hand. Chances are your hall already has it for some of your vendors. I would call to find out. If not your vendor has to fax them over the form.

Yep, that's how it is for any RH. And if your vendor isn't insured, you need to purchase it for the day. My MOH had to purchase insurance for her DJ because he wasn't insured.

Thanks guys!! I feel a little better now knowing that this is typical. Hopefully my potential vendors will have it. I am emailing them now. Good Idea to check with the hall too.
There are so many things that I am out of touch with living over here!! I´m so glad I found this site!

I think your potential vendor's should be insured; if they do weddings they have to be insured. My friend had to get the insurance because her DJ was a friend and not a real wedding DJ.

Re: Vendor Insurance - Is this typical?
how would your RH know if your vendor didn't have insurance ... do they ask you for proof before the day?

def typical... god forbid your vendor had poor electricial wires and the RH caught on fire or something - RH needs to fix those repairs... its always easier to use house vendors because the RH knows that those vendors have insurance with them on file and its up to date or highly recommended vendors that other bride on LIW have used....
Good luck girl !!

Re: Vendor Insurance - Is this typical?
Yes they all ask...but you don't have to provide proof unless that particular vendor has never been to your RH.

Re: Vendor Insurance - Is this typical?
All our vendors were required to present to RH proof of insurance before the wedding day.

Hola fellow tight budget bride!....Sometimes you and the vendor can sign a waiver allowing you to use them for your wedding day but the waiver will state something like....you are aware that if there is any damage to the hall due to the negligence or action of the uninsured vendor, you are liable for the damages incurred....blah blah blah. If the vendor doesn't plug anything in at the hall like a dj or have the potential to cause any damage, you should be fine. Talk to your hall about it, that's what I did.
