vendor opinion

Do you think it is okay to have a photographer that isnt from the state you are getting married?

WHY??

Because one of the photographers we are planning on looking at is in CT-where we live. He did my mother's friends sons wedding on LI. He travels all over New England and NY. He does excellent work..

My concern is that, he wont know the area...

Would you completely ditch the idea of looking at this guy, even though he will travel and does great work just because he wont know the area???

Be honest
Thank you!

Maybe it's too early for me but what does the photographer knowing the area have to do with anything? Now if it was the limo driver I might be more concerned?!?

I agree book him if you like him and know him and he will travel for you.
Just make SURE he knows where he is going and give him directions from you with landmarks so he will not get lost but if he is professional and good he would do a test run before hand. Maybe see if he can do that?
Good Luck!

i was thinking more of the layout of the catering hall and beaches to take pictures... I just assumed that photographers from LI would have a better idea of where to go, have some sort of connection/relationship with the halls...etc...

I could be wrong...thats why I asked

while some photopgraphers might, i would go with someone who makes you feel comfortable and you like, as well as someone who can take good pics....in my opinion, a good photogrpaher can make any scenery look great b/c the use the right lighting and angles! i wouldn't count him out yet - especially if you have seen his work and like it!

I agree - it's the quality of the work that counts, not his ability to navigate our confusing Island!

My hall is pretty uncommon so my photographers have never been there either. I am not concerned since I have been there several times and know the picture taking spots.
