I was told not to pay my major vendors in full until closer to date. The person that told me this was speaking from experience. I kind of just want to get the payments out of the way. What are you girls doing?

Re: Vendor Payments
For the RH we are trying to make as big of payments as we can. For everything else we basically did the minimum deposits, and we're following whatever schedule they give us.

Re: Vendor Payments
None of my vendors have asked for full payment upfront. They have all been on payment plans.
My final balance to my RH is due *I think* 3 weeks before the wedding. We have made a total of 4 payments so far, and are now done until right before the wedding.
Band - I think is due the week before. We made a deposit when we booked, then a second deposit a month later, and now we're done with that until before the wedding.
Photo/Video - Made a deposit when we booked, then one a couple weeks ago. I have another due in Nov, then one in April, then nothing else until I pick up my proofs AFTER the wedding.
I would not pay any of them in full upfront.

Re: Vendor Payments
all my vendors ask for a deposit, and then the full payment at the day of the wedding. RH we are on a payment plan: deposit 1st month after booking, 1st payment end of July, 2nd end of Nov and then the rest of the amount when we finalize all the week of the wedding.
dont pay upfront anything more than necessary minimum. just keep tabs on what u paid and what is left this way u will know how much money u need to have by the time ur wedding comes around and the final payments

Re: Vendor Payments
I'm going to pay the the rh two weeks before but the vendors that allow you to pay the day of like the DJ and Limo, I feel more comfortable paying at that time rather than before.

Re: Vendor Payments
You never know what may happen to those vendors between now and the wedding. I would be safe and not pay them in full until it is due. I totally understand your feeling to just get it over with though.

ITA, especially the way the economy is right now, you never know if any of these RH's or Vendors will loose their business!

Re: Vendor Payments
RH - there was a deposit, 2nd payment due in November & final payment due 2 weeks before.
Band - deposit at contract signing & rest due night of wedding.
Video/Photo - deposit at contract signing, some due night of wedding & rest due when i pick up.

That's the same way I felt! But everyone, including my mother kept telling me that I need to hold off because if any of my vendors or my RH close down I will be out of alot of money, and all I kept thinking was, but I am picking vendors that are in good business and (hopefully) will stay in business!
Crazy thing is that a photographer I was interested in was recommended by a friend and she even told me to hold off because they seem not to be open the way they were in the past! Come to find out the are closing one of the locations in SoHo and when I spoke to my new photographer and told them we were interested in the other one he told me that alot of his photographers are coming from that place and that they are going BANKRUPT!!!!

Re: Vendor Payments
ITA on not paying everyone right now. You can put it in a savings account and just earn interest on it in the meantime.

Re: Vendor Payments
I am making final payments to the vendors exactly when the deadline is...I don't want to have everyone paid off a year before the wedding and then they go M.I.A or something
