I was talking to a coworker who is also getting married and she picked vendors based on the 'amount' she was getting and not necessarily the quality, as in she picked no-name vendors that offered her a lot for a little money. I told her that I'd rather go with a vendor whose quality iand reputation is established and get a smaller package. She just didn't see it the same way (but I am sure she will on her wedding day!).
So while I am sure we all want the best we can get for the money, if there was a specific vendor that you wanted, but could not afford the soup to nuts package, would you still go with them or go with another vendor where you could get the big package for less?

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity
I voted for quality over quantity. Perfect example, a girl I work with went with a no name photographer because the price was right. She said she hated every single pic, the only one she liked was the one she told him to take. She didn't get a videographer and has said that is the one thing she regretted because now she has nothing to remember her day. These are moments you can't get back!!

I would absolutely pick Quality. It give me a peace of mind that I am using vendors that care about the work that they are doing.

I agree, quality over quantity. I'd rather have only 60 pictures that I absolutely loved than 1,000 pictures that are just okay.

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity
I based all of my vendors on the quality of their work, not necessarily their pricing. I know that I could have gotten a better price from someone else but the vendors I went with came highly recommended from many people and have excellent reputations. (BTW, I am on a budget and tried to get the best price & package as possible.)
As the saying goes 'you get what you pay for' and your wedding day is way too special not to listen to that wisdom.

What exactly do you mean by no-name vendor??? There are vendors outside of LIW that do fantastic work that are smaller and charge less When I booked one of my vendors I had never ever heard of his company except once.
To me it depends on which vendor it is...

oh no, i didnt mean to imply that only LIW vendors are reputable, but based on reviews here and on the BBB, her vendors are not too favorable, but she feels she'd rather go with quantity over quality. which is fine if thats what you want, i just figured i'd get some opinions.

I would go for quality. Our first choice photog is way other over budget so all we can afford is one album but we plan to go with it anyway!

Then no, definitely quality!!! If they arent reputable then I wouldnt even meet with them
Im sorry if that sounded snotty, it wasnt meant to-I just know that there are girls on here that think the sun rises and sets by LIW, and it does-BUUUUT there are other vendors in the world and just b/c they arent on LIW doesnt mean they stink

We booked no-name photo and video. Their samples were great and no bad reviews either here or on BBB. I got great prices and exactly what I wanted for my $. The video guy even customized a package for me to save $.
My point: you're both right. If their samples were iffy, I wouldn't have booked. But just because their names aren't used a lot on here doesn't mean that they aren't quality vendors.

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity
if you have the time, why limit yourself to either or? I tried my best and I think for a few vendors, succeeded in getting quality and quantity. that is the case with Larkfield Manor. I don't think the prices when I booked were high and what we received on our wedding day was beyond belief. so I try to give them kudos whenever possible. that was definitely a case of both quality and quantity. but if I had to choose it would be quality. the day is too important to risk messing up.

i hear ya!!! i love thise site and all, but it does kinda make me go crazy. i have always been the type of person to go against what everyone is doing--like if everyone is using X photographer, I am going to go with M photographe...In fact, i think the photog and video we're planning on using aren't LIW vendors but are awesome and i searched a lot to find them. so definitely to each their own

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity

Flowers, I want nice but cheap
Videographer, this one was hard...had to shop around alot but think I found the perfect one for a good price

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity
I want it ALL!
I didn't want to sacrifice either. Someplaces charge twice as much and both the quality and quantity are less. I personally, don't want to be charged for someone's ego.
We met with one photog, he had a bland/basic package, quality was ehh (not bad, just not spectacular) and the price was high.
We met with our photog now, the price was right, package is fantastic and the quality is great. For us, it was about balance.

Re: Vendor Quality vs. Quantity
definitely quality because if you go with say just an okay photographer you'll just end up with a lot of crappy pictures
