Vendor Questions

I had posted this a few weeks ago but didn't get any responses.

For those of you getting married out East, have you heard of either Stan Weist Entertainment DJs or Verdi Photographers? We met with Stan Weist and he seems great, however, I am so scared to book a DJ without seeing a bunch more. We are going to meet with Spin Around Sound this weekend, also.

We went to Stan Wiest and I really liked him (his band) but we went with someone different because we wanted a larger piece band. Our reception location, Flowerfield, highly recommends him.

Verdi

What is the disadvantage to them not developing their own pictures? Sorry, I haven't really started looking at photographers yet so I am a little clueless =:)

Do the proofs take longer or is there the scare of them becoming lost in the mail? Also, is the cost increased b/c of the postage to send them out, etc.?

THANK YOU!!!!

Was it one of the bands or one of the DJs that you saw? I would HATE to have a boring DJ! You are correct, Stan Weist only shows a very brief video of the DJ he thinks is right for you. No cassette tape for me to take or live presentation.

don't let anyone fool you...you can pick as much or as little of the music as you want to with every dj!!!
they are located in Farmingdale and they do a great job!!! I would recommend Rick or Keith!

I think a good dj will go over the list you provide him and tell you what songs will work and what won't. At contract signing, our dj looked over the list we started and basically said we had good stuff, but he wasn't afraid to warn us of what might not work.

We're planning to use True Companion by Marc Cohen as our opening song. He said we might want to practice dancing to that song, because it's not an easy song to dance to, and he's right. I think a good dj should be able to point things out like this, and give you alternatives to consider.

Lisa W is right. I checked out many photographers on the internet before we went to the one I liked best. When we sat with them, it was explained to us the difference in developing, and it's like Lisa said. When someone else is developing the photo, they're just doing it for the faces, not for the background detail, which tends to get lost. According to the photographer we chose, only about 10 places on Long Island do their own developing. I knew there was some reason why his photos looked so much better than others, and this truly is a major difference.

Kel..What DJ are you using?

The boat is called the Legend of the Seas and we start in Barcelona, go to the French Riviera then on to Italy, around the boot up to Venice and then back.

We are using Parameters. Our dj is Eddie Terryn, the owner of the company. He has played major night clubs in the past such as LI Exchange, CoCo's ... the list goes on and on. And he mixed for Al Bandiro (Hot 97). He's got a great variety of music, from pop to jazz to oldies to rock to dance. He does all the spinning and mc-ing, so he is in total control. His number is 516-485-4100.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner Nicole M., I've missed a few days checking in and am just finally catching up now.

Parameters does not have a website yet. As for price, he works with you based on your needs. He is unlike other djs who have prepared packages with set prices. I wish I could be more clear, but he just doesn't come with set prices.

If it helps, we met with Variety DJ and Spin Around Sound as well, and Parameters' price was in the middle.

I haven't really ever heard of TGIF, except for maybe seeing something here...but I can't remember if it was good or bad, or someone just saying they had booked them.

Eddie's tape is very good. The songs blend seamlessly!! His tape makes me confident that people will get up and dance.

Like everyone, I have a growing list of songs that I would love to hear at my wedding, and I know some may not be good 'dancing' songs. But I trust Eddie's judgement to strategically place those songs to keep people on the dance floor. After all, working all those night clubs, keeping people on the dance floor should be second nature to him.

The best part is he will still play a song he cautions might not be 'good' for dancing. For our first song, we've chosen True Companion by Marc Cohen. He's already warned us its not an easy song to dance to, and he's right. But the words mean too much to us to have it as anything else, and he respects that. So when we last left off, he told us we might want to consider having a second dance song. For the first, it would be us, then parents would join. In the second song (Everytime I Close My Eyes-Babyface) the wedding party would join then everyone else. But, we still have 10 months to hammer out those details!

For anybody who is having little ones walk down the aisle, what song are you going to use? I was wondering if anybody was doing something cute for the flower girls and ring bearers to walk down to.
Thank you.

Kel, Vendor Questions

I'm just starting on DJ stuff and I haven't heard of Parameters before now, but what you've said really catches my eye. Could you e-mail me their info at [email protected]? Thanks!

Thank you! I saw some of Verdi's photos and love them.

Stan Wiest's video was really boring. He showed me a video of the DJ that would be playing at our wedding. ALL the songs that I requested him NOT to play were the ONLY songs in the video.
