So I went today to have both my wedding ring and engagement ring appraised so that I can get them insured. The experience was really great - I sat in there and watched Barry do the entire appraisal - the rings were never out of my sight. He was also very complimentary about my rings - pointing out little details that make them so nice, things I never even noticed. When it came down to my center stone, which is certified, I held the GIA certificate and he appraised outloud without looking at it, so we could see how accurate he'd be. He hit the nail on the head with almost everything.
All in all, he appraised both rings in under an hour, gave me all the paper work I need for my insurance, and made me a very happy bride to be! And, even better, my engagement ring appraised at $7,000 more than FH paid for it, he said we got a great deal - WOOHOO!

They're located at 320 Old Country Road in Garden City, right by the courts. You need an appointment though.

Re: Vendor Rave: Jewelry Judge!
What's the price range on their appraisals. I'm all paranoid now because I just had my ring sized and left it there for two days. Everything looks the same - is my paranoia worth paying for another appraisal?

FH went there to get my ring appraised before he gave it to me because it is a family heirloom. He said they were very nice and it was a cool process.

I had the same experience with him. He was very nice and did a great job. I think my apprasial was about $150 dollars. It depends on the carat size of the ring. He has a website that will probably give you more info

The fee is based on the total carat weight of the rings you bring in, not just the center stone. It was something like $100 for the first .99 carats and $25 for each additional 1/2 carat. I had both my wedding ring and my e-ring done, and together they were more than 5 carats, so what he did for me was charge me his hourly fee of $250 since he could do it all in an hour or less and that would've been much cheaper than if I had to pay per carat.
If you already had another appraisal done somewhere else, why don't you bring your ring back there and say you had it cleaned and they kept it and you just want them to verify that it's your diamond? He took pictures of my ring and mapped out the unique characteristics of it internally so that he could tell in the future if its my ring, so your place might also have that sort of info on record.
