vendor references?

vendor references?

How many of you have asked for references from your vendors? (ie, past clients you can contact for reviews)

Do you think this is worthwhile, or just a waste of time since he'll obviously only give you the numbers of people who he didn't have problems with?

I'm talking specifically about vendors who are maybe a little less used on LIW, so there aren't reviews of them on the website. If there are lots of reviews of them on here then I definitely don't feel the need to ask for references, because I essentially already have them.

thanks!

i've searched here, and the knot, and weddingchannel for reviews on all my vendors before meeting with them. Between the 3 sites, its pretty easy to find something on everyone

I hadn't tried weddingchannel... they have chat boards over there? I'll have to check. Thanks!

most of the vendors I'm interested in are not LIW vendors. I checked the knot & wedding channel and found a few reviews. those sites are helpful if your vendors are from manhattan or jersey/non-long island.

I also use google a lot!!!

ok, I tried theknot and weddingchannel.com. There's not much out there... I guess he's pretty new. I found a few people here who used him, but only one person who has already had her wedding and is still active on LIW (and therefore responded to my FM).

So... I guess that brings me back to my original question!

the knot is kinda wierd tho. i find their search engine is a bit off. sometimes if you try just the last name instead of first & last, you will find the vendor, or vice-versa

I have the same question - I don't know how often the vendors get asked for references. My sense is, not so much. I think it is very worthwhile if they give you valid references, but I guess you always run the risk of them giving you their sister or best friend as a reference I would be interested in hearing others responses on this....

I would ask for references. You can call the people and really ask the hard questions.

If I were hiring a contractor for my home I always ask for references and I have many times. Hey-it's your money and most of all your wedding!

Who's the vendor?

You can post a new topic that reads 'Anyone ever use XYZ Vendor' and see if anyone responds.

yup, I've done that! That's how I found the one review on here... that and searching.

So... yeah... I've exhausted the resources of the internet, basically, and I'm still left deciding if I should call these people for references.
