Vendor Relations & First Impressions

Original post by mp1082

Just wondering how many of you really take into account the initial encounter you have with a vendor, when considering whether or not to use them.

There have been at least 3 vendors who I can think of immediately, whose work I was absolutely in LOVE with, and would have paid more than I budgeted for...but their replies were either extremely delayed (going on 2 weeks and 2 emails for the first reply!), very impersonal (i.e., here are our prices, bye. No congrats, no thanks, nothing.), or just plain rude (This is what I charge, if you can afford me feel free to write back).

So, what do you girls think? I've been pretty disappointed about all 3 of these. It's like, don't you want my business? Are you that rude?

I'm not asking for these vendors to be like 'OMGGGG tell me your proposal story!!!!' but a simple 'congratulations on your engagement' would be a nice touch. At VERY least 'Thank you for your interest' is mandatory.

When i was searching for a new photog & video... I told them that i had a bad experience both Rob & Arek said that they were sorry about the bad experience and that they would love to help... that sold me right away...

One videographer we loved, did amazing work. I called him on the phone and he was a total diva, telling me he's not just a videographer, hes an artist! Kept me on the phone to discuss my 'vision' Too high maintenance for me.

First impressions are definitely important! When we were looking at halls, a salesguy at one was so uninterested in us that we would have never booked here even if we loved it.

Especially when money is involved, you always need to put a smile on your face and be professional or else you can't expect to get tons of business even if you are good at what you do. JMO

i think first impressions are extremely important. ultimately, you are going to be working with this person up until your wedding day, so you need to have a good relationship with them. if they can't return e-mails or phone calls, it's just going to cause unnecessary stress and we will all have enough of that already.

Re: Vendor Relations & First Impressions

first impressions and good customer service are SOOOO important to me. There were about 4 vendors that I can think of off the top of my head that I am not using because of their lack of communication (or delayed communication may be a better thing to call it). There are also 2-3 venues that I wrote off based on my gut reaction when I walked in.

I understand it is wedding season/busy time, but please respond to an email or phone call in a timely manor vendors!!! lets be real...during the week (mon - thurs) chances are they are not doing an event so they should be able to manage their accts during that time!
