Vendor reviews from our May 11th wedding
My wedding was May 11th – the day was absolutely perfect!! The weather was as if I had ordered it!!
My dress – Bridal Reflections, Carle Place.
It was a Diamond Bridal gown designed by Ada Athanassiou. It was a strapless gown, with no detailing what so ever on it, except for the back of it. It was absolutely me, and I loved it to death. I ordered it one year out, and it took 8 months to come in. I had Lee for fittings. I thought she was great at first. She did everything I asked her to. She told me I only needed one fitting, being the dress fit me so well, and only needed a few adjustments. I picked it up 2 weeks before my wedding, and my one fear was realized. The strapless dress was not as tight as I wanted it in the boob area, and I had fears of hiking it up all day. When I expressed my concern to Lee, she told me she wouldn’t make it any tighter because it makes your skin bulge above the breast in the armpit area. I know what she meant, so I said okay. I was going bra-less at that point, but decided to get a strapless bra to add some volume to the boob area to hold it up. Long story short, the dress was too big in my boob area and I spend a good portion of the reception hiking it up. Be sure to get what you want before leaving the seamstress. That was my only complaint.
Bridesmaid dresses – David’s Bridal, Carle Place. Ordered in September, got them all in 3 weeks time, no problems what so ever. Even one of my bridesmaids, who found out she was pregnant in December, was able to exchange her dress for a bigger size being she would be 5 months pregnant at the wedding.
Church – St. Agnes, Rockville Centre.
We found out a month before our wedding the priest who was going to marry us was no longer able to. We didn’t find out until the Tuesday before the wedding who would be marrying us. That held up the printing of the programs, but because we did them ourselves, it was no big deal. The Mass was beautiful, and we received so many compliments. The music from the organist and the singer we had were awesome (they were supplied by the Church).
Reception – The Sans Souci of Sea Cliff.
Truly a hidden gem that deserves much more recognition than it seems to get. I can’t say enough about the day we had there. We had an outdoor cocktail hour that had so much food; people were amazed we still had dinner coming as well. The weather was beautiful that day, and it provided a beautiful backdrop for pictures, since we had no time between the Church and reception to go somewhere for pictures. Our maitre’d Manuel was great!! The service was excellent. The food was fantastic. The day ran so smoothly, and everything was right as we had expected it. I could go on about them, but in short, the reception setting and food and view were absolutely stunning. Our cake was included in our package as well. I didn’t get to eat it, but everyone I’ve spoken to has said it was superb!! The designer did it exactly as we had wanted.
Band – The Time Square Orchestra.
Phenomenal. MaryAnn and Joe were so responsive and accommodating to all our requests before the big day, and everything went so well the day of. The music had people on the dance floor the whole time. They really are great. We had the whole 8-piece band and had several people compliment us on our great choice. We were very happy.
Photographer – Glenmar Studios, Roslyn.
What can I say? We picked up our proofs when we got home from our honeymoon, and we haven’t stopped looking at them yet!! They are so beautiful and nice, we will never be able to choose our album!! We had Mike, and he was just so fantastic handling our large bridal party. We got so many shots that captured the day as we remember it. We have about 400 proofs to sort through, and they are all just awesome. I have scanned in a few, but it would take me years to do them all. I would not hesitate to recommend Glenmar to you all – they are wonderful and you would not be disappointed. Our package was reasonably priced, and their work is indescribable. My scans are bad quality, so don’t judge them by that fact.
Florist – Silver Stems, Rockville Centre.
They did our bouquets and boutonnieres. Just gorgeous!! Not one complaint. Everyone loved them and they were exactly as I envisioned they would be. For table centerpieces, we used the House Florist, as it was included in our package with the Sans Souci. Donald Hedgecock did a wonderful job, and I know everyone was scrambling at the end to take them home. The flowers and colors he used complimented the bouquets so well.
Limos and Rolls, Strathmore Limos, Sea Cliff. Wonderful. On time and courteous drivers. Helped out so much with me and my huge dress. The limo and rolls were clean, and well stocked. We got an upgrade to a 14-pass limo from a 12-pass for no additional charge. We only paid $700 and it was worth every penny.
Favors – Godiva Heart Truffles from their store in Roosevelt Field. No complaints anywhere on this one. They were perfectly done and I know everyone took them home.
Placecards – Picture Yourself Graphics (www.pygraphics.com). What a huge hit!! We had childhood photos of us turned into a wedding portrait and it was a huge hit. Marianne was so helpful in doing our portrait package for us, and did a wonderful job creating portraits for us to give to our parents as well. I have the portrait she did included in my website of wedding photos (http://community.webshots.com/album/38848722htWbub).
I know I’m probably leaving out something. I will post separately on my honeymoon to Spain. That too was fantastic. Overall, there was no one thing I would change about my wedding day if I was able to do it over.
