I have my heart set on an a capella group for our ceremony, so I had been emailing for quotes. This is an email i got from one vendor:
'We received your inquiry through Gig Salad and appreciate your thinking of us. We are based in CT and your wedding is on a Thursday evening in Long Island. I don’t think we could get out of our day jobs in time, but if you could tell me how much you’re willing to pay, I will ask and see if we can put something together (we don’t always need seven members to make a memorable sound). Thank you again.'
Um ok really? Thanks for telling me that my wedding is on a Thursday. Check your calendar! Its a Sat. And ask me how much I'm willing to pay? Uh, am i buying a used car???? I replied
'Hello, Thanks for your response. I just wanted to correct that my wedding is on a Sat. night.'
And got this back:
'Wow! Of course! I will ask the fellas. Can you give me a compensation range to share with them? Again, it may be tricky convincing them to make the drive to the Island. Let me know and I’ll get back to you. Thanks!'
Are you kidding me? It may be tricky to convince them? DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! I don't care if you have Kelly Clarkson in your group that is just tasteless!
SORRY, rant over.

Re: Vendor Vent (long)
That's SOOOOO rude. I don't like it at all.
I think they can say that there would be a travel fee, please call to discuss, but to ask you what you're willing to pay is ridiculous!!!!

Ugh, I am sorry you were treated like that. That is so unprofessional. I hope you can find another capella group.

I might be able to help! I am an acapella alumni and I've got a ton of connections and ideas...you should definitely check out college groups, they are much more prevalent...and budget-friendly! I was a member of Binghamton University's Rhythm Method. There are 7 groups there, and most of the are absolutely amazing. You can also check out the semi-professional group one guy upstate (www.oneguyupstate.com) who are based in the city if you want all-male. I'm happy to help, forum mail me if you have any specific questions!

Re: Vendor Vent (long)
Thanks girls!!!
Another vendor in NJ said in the email 'Traveling will be the biggest expense for us so it won't make a difference in price if we do 1 song or 15.'
I appreciate that! Be honest and get everything out in the open right away so neither of us waste time!

Wow how unprofessional to say 'what are you willing to pay'!?!?!
He should have just provided a quote including their travel cost and sent it to you for review. From there you could review and discuss!

That is just ridiculous. They are supposed to tell you prices not the other way around. I would write back 'Your compensation would be a dollar for how unprofessional you are. So email me the contract and we'll call it a deal.'

I went to Binghamton and I saw MANY of the acapella groups there (although it was over 10 years ago) and they were all great!

Re: Vendor Vent (long)
yeah, they should've told you their normal rate, and said that they would need travel expenses for the tolls, gas, etc.
