Venezuela

Venezuela

My FH was going to surprise me with a HM - but I finally got it out of him that he was looking into Venezuela - Margarita Island.

Has anyone been there or heard about this?

I Have! it is supposed to be beautiful there!!
the only thing is that b/c of the flight times, you usually have to stay in Caracas (sp?) overnight each way. B/c the flights to and from the island are scheduled in such a way that you cant get back here the same day.
Unless that has changed recently??

i have heard that Venezuela is very unsafe, but an Island that is touristy might be fine...

I was there years ago with my family! I was very young so my memory of it is fading...
From what I remember, the resort was amazing, but the island itself was very, very poor and run down. We were told not to wander too far from the resort. I have wonderful memories of the resort but I have to be honest and say that it wasn't the kind of place you'd go to for a honeymoon. Now, a lot could have changed since then, so you never know. Venezuela has had a lot of political problems lately so you may want to keep that in mind too.

also meant to add that we did the flight in one day. We flew into caracas and then took a puddle jumper (seriously SMALL plane) to the island.

we were just in aruba and were considering taking a flight over to Venezuela and were told not to, that the island is very poor and there isnt much to see, so we didnt go. i heard caracas- may be the capitol or the main city not sure, is unsafe too, but if youre in a resort area should be fine- i went to jamaica everyone said the same thing unsafe and poor which it is but the resort area was amazing.

Margarita Island is supposed to be beautiful, but Venezuela one a whole is noth the safest place. If you're interested in that area, why don't you try looking into Aruba or Costa Rica.

I wanted to go there so bad!!!! We were going to Aruba and take a trip over there but decided against it because of cost and went to Mexico.

Anyway I heard that right now its unsafe to go there. I could be wrong though, I am sure the tourist areas are okay. Have a great time!
