Venice

Hey ladies,

Has anyone been to Venice and have any advice or recommendations? I'm trying to plan a trip for my 1 year anniversary

TIA

Honestly, and this is just my opinion and I was only there once for three days...it wasn't my favorite Italian city. I found the people very rude. It was nice to go there and see the sights, but I wouldn't want to stay there for a long time.

I loved Sicily and Florence and Pisa. I cannot WAIT to go back to Sicily!

Re: Venice

We just went to Rome, Florence and Venice for our 30th anniversary. We used Club ABC Tours and in Venice we stayed at the Bauer hotel. Beautiful, except an awful breakast.

Best dinner we had was at A Beccafico...what a wonderful restaurant!!! I found it on Trip Advisor (which reminds me, I never did a review!)

If you send my your e-mail, I will send you my pictures of Venice and you can see pics of the hotel room and the food.

Happy Planning!

Re: Venice

I went to Venice back in college. Next time around I would spend only a day or two there and more time somewhere else, but I know other people who LOOOOVE it.
I would honestly go when it's warm. In the winter, it was dreary and really got me down but the city itself is really cool. It's old and creepy with all its tiny alleyways and I thought the people were nice. We took a train up to Milan and if you like NYC but smaller and quieter, I highly recommend Milan. Also it has many old beautiful churches to see.
From Venice you can even take a train all the way to Rome (it's about 5 hours) or fly to Paris even.
I don't have a lot of specific details because it was years ago and I was part of a study abroad, but I do recommend traveling to other cities like Milan, Florence, etc, but Venice can get a little boring, but you can always boat to Murano, etc which is right there if you don't want to leave the city.

We spent only a few days in Venice. We took a group Med. cruise out of Venice. We stayed in the Marriot by the airport. We had traveled by train from Rome to Lucca - sent time seeing sights in Florence and Pisa and then trained it to Venice. We went in the summer and it was extremely hot - we were very happy to stay in the Marriott. The AC was well needed. The hotel and restaurant were great. Just a short bus ride into the city. If you decide to go, let me know I have some info for you about the city.

Make museum reservations ahead of time on line before you travel. Lines in the summer were extremely long.

Re: Venice

I loved Venice but everyone on here is right 3 days 2 nights is really all you need. We stayed at Locanda La Corte on Calle Bressana, it's a 3 star and reasonably priced. The Venetians were never rude, just the tourists can get rude because it is so overwhelmingly crowded in the summer months. The entire city is like being in one giant art museum.
While you are that far north in Italy you should go to Lake Como, it's breathtaking.
