Venice or Amalfi?

Venice or Amalfi?

reposted from honeymoon board:

For my honeymoon I'm visiting Rome, Almalfi/Capri, Florence & Venice....spread over 2 weeks. Is 2 nights in Amalfi/Capri enough? My FI suggested instead of spending 3 nights in Venice, spend 2 there, and add the extra night to Amalfi because there's supposedly more to do. Anyone been to both who can give any advice?

I have been to Venice twice and my fiance has been to Venice and the Amalfi/Capri area. We both LOVE Venice and he says there is more to do in Venice without a doubt. If you want, you can spend the extra night in Pompeii (? spelling) but that means more moving around. There is alot of sight seeing you can do in Venice, and you also get the added bonus of one extra day to eat more GELATO (the best stuff on earth)!

I love the Amalfi coast. It's such a quaint, beautiful place. I spent 2 nights in venice and 2 nights on the Amalfi coast and felt that it was ample time in both towns. HTH!

I haven't been tot he amalfi coast, but I have been to Venice.. we went ofr 5 days and did not get bored. Seriously, its just such a beautiful city to stroll around in. And there are the surrounding Islands that are nice to visit...Murano is famous for making glass stuff and you can go on a tour of the factory and Burano is a really cute little fisherman's town (atleast it used to be) and all of the houses are painted really bright colors...so its also nice to stroll around there. And we spent half a day at the beach on Lido island. So I'd say spend the extra day in Venice.

i've been to both.. it all depends what you want to do when you go to amalfi... there are boat rides that take you to the other towns near by -positano, sorrento.. and in capri there is also anacapri... so IMO i would do the three nights in Amalfi.. its gorgeous.. and the beaches and scenery are beautiful...
i've been to venice and think two nights there is plenty.. you see the square do the gondola ride, have nice dinners...

either way you cant go wrong!

I have spent 3 weeks at a clip in Positano. SO there is never enough time on the amalfi coast for me!

I havn't been there- yet! Have always wanted to go! But from what I hear is that you could easily do a week in each because there is so much to do and experience. But it sounds like an awesome trip! Have fun!!

we originally were going with an itinerary similar to this, except we weren't going to Venice. We had planned to stay in Sorrento (Almafi Coast) for 3 nights per our travel agent's recommendation. Now we're considering a lower cost HM.

I have not been to Italy yet, but we're going for our honeymoon as well. I've been doign a lot of research with friends/family who have travelled there, and friends with family there. Most people I ask say that 2 days is plenty for Venice and Rome. I'm sure you can do a lot more there with extra days, but in general 2 days should be enough to cover the main attractions. Most people I've talked to have said that the Amalfi is gorgeous and the best part of their vacations. Our tentative plan is:

Venice - 2 days
Tuscany region - 3 days
Rome - 2 days
Amalfi Coast - 4 days

HTH!!

Ok 2 days is enough to just see the sights in Venice... but honestly, I thought the best part about our time there was just walking and exploring all the small, back ally ways and stuff...it was SO ROMANTIC because even during high season FH and I would often find ourselves completely alone...really one of the most romantic places I've ever been.
