Vent!

Vent!

So I posted about a week ago how my FH got called for the NYPD after waiting like 2 years. Now don't get me wrong I am so happy for him since I have met him he had wanted to do nothing else but be a police officer. However, this is soooo much harder than I expected I guess. He has only been in the academy for 3 days and I miss him so much already. We don't live together so its not like we see eachother just because we are both home. I am so use to seeing him all the time and being able to call him for no reason just to say hi and obviously I can't do that now while he is in the academy. To top it off I just found out he had the 4-12 tour which S*U*C*K*S! I go to school during the day so by the time I come home he will have already left to go to the academy and when he comes home at like 2am I will be sleeping because I have to be at school for 7am clinicals I guess I'm just upset and wish he would have at least got the 7-3 tour so I could see him at least for an hour or 2 before he had to go to bed. Vent over but I'm sure there will be more lol Thanks for listening.

Aww...I'm sorry. I can relate, FH is in the NYPD too. In the five years of him being an officer his tour has changed five times. Right now he is on the 7-330 tour, but he has worked midnights, 4-12s, you name it. It is really hard at first, but trust me, it will get easier.

It'll be ok. It's not going to be the schedule forever.

Re: Vent!

awww, I'd be really bummed too in that situation but he will love you for supporting his dreams. Like the other girls said, it won't be forever...

My friend's FH is a cop and in the military too and he just came back from Irag after being there a year. Hard as hell I'm sure but they made it work and just made them appreciate eachother more.

Thanks girls! I know it wont be forever it is just going to take some getting use to. I think I'm just a little upset about it because its so new and I'm not use to him being gone all the time.

thats a total bummer. I would be sad too! Hopefully he gets a new schedule sooner rather than later so you can spend some time together!

That's rough but it will all be worth it! He's getting his dream job and hopefully he will have more desirable hours once the academy is over. Sorry chickie

My FH is nypd too. He's been on the force for 7 years and works the day tour but he started out in midnights. He tells me all the time that the 4-12 is the worst but hey your man has to pay his dues....then it will get better and you'll work it out. I still get mad when he gets a 'collar' (an arrest) and can't make it home till late...

awwww sweetie it will work out. You will make it work. FH actually took the last police exam, so I guess I'll be going through the same thing in a few years.

Re: Vent!

I know exactly how you feel...When FH was in the academy we did not live together and I saw him only once a week and we barely spoke.
Not to mention I was taking 18 credits at the time so its not like i was available as much either. It was one of the msot difficult times but if you stay strong and stick through it, it will all be worth it in the end!!!

Re: Vent!

I totally feel for you... FH is a NYPD Detective since I met him and I never could get used to his crazy schedule. Most of the time he doesn't know until the day before what tour he is doing unless he is going to court. We can't make plans because we never know his schedule and we usually work opposite shifts ( I work 7a-3p and he usually works in the evening or nights). You will get used to it eventually. I only get to see him on his days off which are Sunday and Monday after I get out of work..... Just remember that it is only 6 months and he has a chance of getting a better shift! It will all work out in the end! Good luck and if you need to chat or vent FM me! HTH

My FH and I do live together. He has different split shifts each week a different one. There are times that I love being alone and then times I wish he was home. I think this keeps us stronger and appreciate each other more.

i can totally understand how you are feeling. FH and I live together and he recently started a new job. He leaves the same time as me, but I get home at 445 and he doesn't get home till at least 9 now!!! And he has to work Saturdays till Election day :(
