So i really wanted to do a cupcake favor... i think edible favors are cute and a good idea because there have been so many times where people just throw away whatever trinket they are giving out.
Well i told my parents my idea and my mom flipped and said that it wasn't appropriate for a wedding.. and that i should give out something 'more fancy' and something they can 'remember my wedding by'. She is italian which means that she wants me to prob give out some candy dish/bowl/platter. lol.
So i told FH this and he said just screw it, lets do what we want but at the same time i have this like, disapproval in the back of my mind lol.
sorry girls just needed to vent.

I love the edible idea, but am also competing with the Italian thing. I love the idea of cheeseboards, not that that really worked out for our engagement. We're going with the wine stopper with coasters for the wedding. It was a good compromise. I'm sure I will work something edible in there somewhere, somehow.

I understand how you feel. I wanted to do a donation and my mom flipped out. Thankfully, she liked my cupcake idea.
I think you should do what makes you happy. Maybe explain to her that edible favors are more and more popular. Hopefully she will come around!

i had a similar disagreement with FH. i wanted to do a donation but he said people would get annoyed & would prefer a favor. meanwhile he is the one who complains that we have all these 'useless favors' in our apartment.
i did get a slice of cake as a favor once. my sister tried it & didn't like the taste of it so i stuck my slice in the freezer & saved it for 2 years. then when we replaced our fridge i threw it in the garbage.

Also, if she wants something people will remember, they will CERTAINLY remember cupcake favors! Especially if they're good!!!!!

I think it's hard to make your own decisions when you feel like people are disapproving. My mom has been like that on a few occasions, but you just have to do the edible favors! It's not a huge thing...she'll get over it. (and cupcakes are delicious!)

i have received wine stoppers & coasters.
we use the coasters all the time. the only issue we have is that they are glass top & we use glasses so they stick together when the moisture builds up on the glass.
we only use the wine stoppers when we keep a cooking bottle on the counter. the fridge door wont close if we have the stopper in the bottle. & you can't lay the bottle on its side either.

FH and i from day 1 agreed we are going to do a donation to 2 different organizations honor of our fathers. My mom thinks a donation is an appropriate gift but i'm held my ground saying that's what we're doing cuz it's meaningful. So she backed up a little but saying, 'well... you should still give something.' So i said if you want to pay for it thats fine.
I feel your pain lol.

i love the cupcake idea!! But to appease your mom maybe you could do jordan almonds in an organiza bag... we italians love the jordan almonds... you culd double them as placecards maybe with a tag with name and table number... just an idea

You should do what you want. I think that unless you give a useful favor (bread dish/ oil&vinegar holders/ wine glasses etc.) people won't care about them. No offense to anyone, but I have no use for the wine stoppers and othe knick-knacks that I have receieved in the past. They are currently residing in the trunk of FH's car. Don't waste your money on something you don't want to do! Do the cupcakes!! They are adorable and it is what you want.

maybe you can compromise on a small thing with the cupcake? like how with the cupcake be boxed/wrapped? if its w ribbon maybe you can tie a little trinket on to that, just to appease mom?
if not, do the CUPCAKE!! especially if its wrapped nice its all good. maybe she is concerned about how it will be preseented...show her a picture.

I COMPLETLY feel you pain!!! Who knew Favors were such a production!!!! my FH has a HUGE italian family so i feel like theyre expecting some ellaborate Gift when they leave the party like something LENOX (because thats all i have ever recieved!) But i reallly really dont want to spend soooooo much money on favors!! 250 guest x 30=TOO MUCH MONEY!!!!!

I am from a big italian family too, but guess what, when it comes to favors they can all kiss my coppertone bottom for all i care!! This is your wedding, your money being spent, dont let them dictate to you what you HAVE to do for favors!! If you want cupcakes, go for it!! I think the edible favor is such a cute thing to have...But if your family still wants traditional favor, tell them if they want it they pay for it!!

i am from the italian side too, so jordan almonds are big with us. but we are doing a donation and then going to give out a yummy piece of chocolate as people are leaving.

Go to the factory in Cranberry, NJ. for my engagement party we gave Lenox floating heart vases $14.99 each.... (that's still pretty steep but they are beautiful and it was only 30 favors for our immediate fam so we splurged.) Everyone loved them.

DO WHAT YOU AND BILLY WANT. Once we start leaving all the details, especially details as small as wedding favors, up to our family members it becomes their wedding and not ours. Don't give up on it because someone else tells you they don't like the idea, it's your wedding.

I totally understand about having that 'disapproval' feeling, especially if your close with your mom. In the end, you have to do what you want, afterall its your wedding. Just explain that to your mother and I am sure she will come around.
