Vent about MOB

Vent about MOB

I have read so many of your posts about MOB's and although i understand that some of your girls are overwhelmed with how much they are involved i wish my mom was half as interested as they are. She is totally happy about me getting married but its just not really into the planning aspect of the wedding. All she knows is that im getting married somewhere out in LI. She saw a picture of my dress and said it was very pretty but has never asked about it again..Her excuse for not getting involved is that she prefers not to interfere with my opinions or taste. She got married very young and she had no say in her wedding everything was picked out for her so i guess she is giving me my space but i guess its too much space. I am not sure if i should get her more involved but part of me feels like if she does not ask why should i include her. I guess my parents feel since they are helping out with paying for some stuff for the wedding they have done their part. I just wish i would be able to talk to her about wedding stuff.

I think u should just tell her that u wish she was a little bit more involved as u do want her opinions on everything. waiting for her to ask about the wedding is obviously not working. just tell her how u feel.

I'm sorry your in this situation! Your situation sounds like my FMIL. FH is upset she is completely not involved with the planning. But it's worse when it's your own mom

I would talk to her and tell her you want her to be involved

IM sorry, ask her come with you to meet vendors! my mom aslo had no choice in her wedding my aunt ( her sister) bought her invites ( from Tiffanys so I would not complain) and her parents pretty I think did everthing else, so she is give me her advice on my dress , florist she came to both those app. and for the food tasting she was not there for the booking. And she did a lot with helping me plan our e-party. FH actually never came to the florist.

SAme here...FH and I are having 'issues' with my FMIL and FFIL as we feel as though they aren't excited at all and don't really care about the plans, and don't really want to help with anything at all...it is just so discouraging.

Just try to sit down and talk to her and tell her how your feel...

Sorry to hear that but be grateful there is some breathing room. I agree with asking her to come see vendors or calling and asking her opinion on certain things. My FMIL is the same way though....She only just booked her room in Antigua and they are staying the least amount of time!

Im sorry you are going through this. My mom isnt helpful at all either (come to think about it). I realized that not everybody is going to be as joyful and as excited as we are for our wedding. You should talk to her and tell her how important this is to you and how you would for her to be more involved. im sure she will be happy to help out. Good Luck

sorry you are going through this

like others mentioned maybe you should tell her how you feel & how you want her to be involved. then next appointment you have (if your FH is ok with it) tell your mom that it would mean a lot if she would meet a vendor with you.

i hope everything works out.

Thanks girls for your advice. I guess its true not everyone will be as excited about your wedding as you are. I just hoped that my mom would naturally just want to be a part of all the planning not me have to ask her.

oh boy..i just had the same vent a few days ago...
my mother is the same.. we had a fallout a few weeks ago abt favors.. so bad that we didnt even talk wedding at all..

i talked to her about it, i asked her to tell me what was wrong and she told me the same thing your mom said..that she did not want to interfere w/my opinions and did not want to argue ...
i told her i wanted her to tell me all her opinions and that i appreciated them. we argued a little, but we made up and we are getting along better now...she even surprised me w/a cake topper she bought while they went away this wknd..

my advice is to tell her that u want her involved...she might need that extra push like my mom did.!

Im sorry to hear that your mom is not soo involved....My mom is involved with alot but she is not being pushy about it she helps out with whatever I ask....I think maybe you should talk to your mom and tell her how you feel and tell her that you want her opinon on things and want her to be more involved.

So sorry. I would sit down and talk to her about your feelings. I think another 2010 bride had a similar problem.. she explained how she felt to her mom and everything was all good. Sit down with some magazine cutouts or something, and ask her to go dress shopping with you!
Good Luck

Re: Vent about MOB

Have you tried actually telling her you want her to be involved????? As annoying as mother's can be sometimes, they're not always mindreaders. It sounds like she's trying not to step on your feet, but also by you not asking for her opinion might really make her think you don't want it.

I don't have this issue with my mom, but I know FMIL is trying not to step on my feet. So when I want her opinion on something, I have to ask her because she doesn't want to seem overbearing.

I honestly think you just need to tell her you want her involved. I bet she really wants to be, but also wants you to want her to be. JMO.
