So we have another deposit due on 3/1, which is Monday. We get a letter yesterday dated 2/24 from the owner saying that we have a deposit of $xxx due on or before 3/1 and 'would appreciate our immediate attention to this matter'. Are you kidding me? This will be our 3rd payment and we never received a letter previously, nor have we been late. The other payments were hand delivered on the due date. I see nothing wrong with a friendly reminder letter a couple weeks before the due date, but the overdue credit card payment tone letter just irritated FH and I.
While I'm at it, I may as well vent it all. We're already irritated becuase when we went in the first time to look we discussed dates and we wanted a Sunday because we figured it would be a bit cheaper and so we mentioned Halloween and we were told that we could be 'worked with' for that date. So in our initial meeting, the BM knocks $5 off what we thought was the Sunday pp cost and throws in the mini-vienesse hour. Come to find out 5 months after we booked that we're paying the same on a Sunday (and Halloween) as a Saturday night and she throws in the mini-vienesse for almost everyone!! FH was furious and wanted to rip the BM a new one, but we don't have any real proof, just hiersey(sp). Believe me, if we could have gotten a Saturday night or even another Sunday for the same price we would not have specifically chosen Halloween. We think that since we were willing to book Halloween (and most people aren't) she saw this as the opportunity to book the day and so she made the presentation very attractive.
These two experiences have completely turned me off and and made me so unexcited about our hall which I really loved and was so confident in our decision.
Just had to vent, it's been building up. THANKS!

Re: Vent about my hall (kind of long...sorry)
it's standard protocol...I've gotten a letter a week before each payment was due.

Re: Vent about my hall (kind of long...sorry)
Vent away.. I'd be ticked.
To be honest I think those types of things put unneeded stress.
Im really really happy we have no payment plan at all. It's pay as you can. No letters.. nothing. As a matter of fact my first payment the Hall manager, James, didn't deposit until Jim finally called and asked why. James said he wanted to make sure we were ok with him depositing the check, just in case we had any other checks out there. He didnt say it in a way that suggested our tiny check would bounce, he said it in a way that said he'd check with us first before depositing.
No pressure. We own 3/4 by the time of one month before the wedding. That's the ONLY deadline we have.

Dont' be upset by the letter! I'm sure that same letter has been sent to every bride that ever booked there. It just some form letter that they send out and fill your names in. Don't sweat it. I'm sorry you are upset about the hall in general though-- that's really heartbreaking & frustrating when you hear that someone else got a better deal. I'm not sure what else you can do... maybe bargain for more stuff when you go for your tasting/menu selection.

Vent away!
I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy with the hall. I really think you should speak to your BM or someone above her and let them know of your unhappiness.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry! I'd be most upset about the difference in price per person! So they outright LIED about their prices, and told you that you were getting a reduced Sunday night rate when you are Actually paying a Sat. night rate!??? That is inexcuseable!

Although the tone of their letter was a bit curt, I can understand it. After all, they are running a business and I'm sure they've had clients who do not pay as they should. As for the price difference, I would be extremely annoyed with them about that. When I was looking at halls, I usually got the prices for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, day and night, just so I could see the difference. You (or a friend) could always call and say you're getting married and would like to know the basic prices. At least then you'd know if what you heard was true. If you are more of a direct person, you could just confront them and tell them how unhappy you are about their business practices. Most businesses know how important word of mouth is, so they want happy customers. Maybe they can add something on for you.
I know it's difficult, but try not to be upset about this. It happened, and you can't change it. All you can do is try to make it better. And even if they don't change anything, don't let it ruin your wedding.

I don't blame you venting about what the BM did regarding the date. I hope its just hearsay and not true, but if it is, I don't blame you being mad!

Re: Vent about my hall (kind of long...sorry)
I think the letter is standard. I knew I was supposed to get a letter...so I waited for it. When I called to schedule the menu selection, they said...you never made your payment...I said, I never got my letter. It was no big deal, I made the payment when I went to pick the menus.
As for the price difference...did this other person you heard from also pick the month of October? They have different prices for the different months and seasons. Someone might pay $100 pp for a Saturday night in October...but only pay $80 pp for a Saturday night in November. JMO.

Re: Vent about my hall (kind of long...sorry)
Don't be too pissed... I got a letter a week before every payment was due.. when it came time for the last payment we never got a letter so we figured that was it till the wedding but then a month or two later they sent a letter saying that we had a payment due 2 months ago and they need it immediately. I thought it was a little tacky the letters that they sent, but we just took it with a grain of salt. But I do know that my BM left and this woman called me and said she was my new BM.. this was last Saturday. So maybe the letters had something to do with the other BM that was there!??!? who knows... hang in there... the place is gorgeous and you're wedding will be twice as gorgeous!
Best Of luck!

I hate it when vendors try to take advantage of there customers in a very sneaky way...They are repulsive for sweet talking you with a BIG CHEESY smile.
It took me almost 2 months to find a decent classical reception hall. I was about to give up and just rent any place, but don't worry..maybe it could have been a mix up with the sunday / sat. prices. Maybe it was a goof
