Vent about other Message Boards

I went on another message board to vent about money problems. I owe on my line of credit with my bank and was trying to figure out a way to get myself back on track. Wellll...these women were all so mean telling me that I am going to lose my house and cars because I owe money. They tell me that I am immature!!! If you know me personally, I am the most mature and responsible person. They were telling me things to cut down on my spending like-cut out cable (oh, yeah, like I would do that! Since I don't have money to go out-can't I have some 'luxury'-cut out cellphones (NEVER-for safety reasons alone)-sell our cars and get used ones (so they can break down with me and 2 kids-no thank you).
I have figured out a way to get back and pay the LOC but they are telling me that having a bday party for my dd is a waste of money and that they never spend over $50 for a party and one woman only spends $5 on gifts!!! WHO are these women?
Sorry, but I just needed to vent. I was just looking for help and maybe some understanding and I got these nasty women who are just 'perfect' with their money.
Is it me or is everyone else struggling and have gotten themselves into binds some times?
Thanks!

Eww, what site was this? I would love to go on there and give them a piece of MY MIND.

When we were living in Boston, we were DESTITUTE. We used to alternate bills to pay each month. JT was making like 7 dollars an hour while going to school, I was make a crapload of money, but it went to the ridiculous rent bill and his 400 dollar a month train and subway pass. We were actually living for a while on these manufacturer coupons that corinne7477 sent us for free food
And now, we may not have a TON of money, but we have eradicated most of our debt, have great, well-paying jobs and can afford to have a little money to spend. It happens to EVERYONE at some point in time!
(and by the way, the cable bill was the ONE bill we ALWAYS payed when we had no money )

I have had that happen to me-it seems like the brides on other boards arent as nice or understanding as NY Brides.

I went on one and some one had put a vent about the FMIL -and another girl posted back this LONG response about how-our parents brought us into the world-it isnt about you (meaning B&G) its about the uniting of your families so you cant complain about them-how it is immature to complain and complain and that they all needed to grow up and listen to their parents...i mean it made sense-but when you have no where else to vent-why cant you vent on the boards?
Some brides dont have other brides that they can vent to and understand the aggravation parents in general will put you thru over what you would like for your wedding.

I would stick the LI boards-you will get better advice, and girls who actually have or are going thru the same things as you are.

ETA:everyone has money problems-trust me-I do too...go ahead vent girl!

i posted about this on lif too, but something someone said made me think of something. we are certainly paid more here on li/nyc then is the mid-west. there are people who get paid $10 an hour and think that they are well-off, not here. if they ever heard our salaries they'd wonder how we could possibly have money problems.

and the best thing to do, is make a list of all your debts and work out a payment schedule.

There are people like that one this site, too unfortunately. Just ignore 'em!

I've found that if I go out with no money or no credit cards (or if I tel myself I'l only use tem in an emergency) I don't spend as much $$. I work in a store and sometimes I'd shop like 2x a week there buying different things. A lot of it was household stuff I needed, but some of it could wait another week, and some of it was extra stuff I just wanted to buy, or I didn't need to buy yet. So I find if I only plan to spend money on certains days when i know I have to go food shopping on shopping for household items, I spend less $$, and I also sometimes don't buy the thing I wanted to buy a few days before, the novelty will have worn off and I'l realize I didn't really 'Need' to buy that anyway, even though it seemed really necessary or compelling at the time. Also, I've found that scouring the grocery circulars for deals has been great, and some stores double and triple coupons, so coupons are always good! Sometimes if I get a good thing on sale, I can buy like 6 mos woth of something at a really low price and then not have to worry about it for awhile. These are realy little things, but they've made a big difference (esp the waiting thing), and this kind of planning has helped me to get my credit back on track in a major way and has helped me become able to afford some of the larger things I needed that may have seemed impossible before!

It is ivillage.com. It's like these women must still live in the 80's. They don't buy clothes, have antennas for the TV's, no cellphones and no bday parties for their kids!! One woman said she could spend $5 for a bday gift. I asked what and she said 'A barbie doll, 5 matchbox cars or a couple of tubs of playdoh'!! Are these people ridiculous or what!! Everyone struggles sometimes with money. When we got married we only took home $317/week!! We made it though.

Thanks-yes my dh and I know that we need to buckle down on the non-neccessities we keep wasting our money on. I have to slow down on clothes shopping because that is another dent in the budget. If I don't go shopping, I don't spend money so I try and stay home. It is hard, but we will have to get ourselves in a routine.

Yeah thats exactly it. Stay home! Stay away from the stores entirely. Even if I think I need something I wait until I need a lot because the fewer trips to teh store or mall I feel, the fewer uneccessary things I end up slipping in.

Sooo true. There is always that cute pair of shoes or something for the kids we just HAVE to have. It is much easier in the winter when I don't go out as much. I really want to get a new kitchen sometime in this century so I will have to get back on track!

Re: Vent about other Message Boards

Cause when you're slipping in that DVD, or like you said that pair of shoes, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but if you only go to teh store once in the time you would normally go three times, you're not going to buy the DVD AND the shoes AND the great blouse that's on sale. you're going to look at yourself and say 'This is ridiculous, I can't buy all of this now' Even though before you would have bought it all separately! Good Luck. Just keep on trying! We should start a support group or something... Like weight loss buddies, we should have debt loss buddies

Thanks, that is exactly how I feel. They are just MEAN women who think their way is the right way. I guess they enjoy making people feel bad. There was a young girl, single who got to stay at her mom's house for a year after having her baby and they all berated her that she was a moocher!! She has since moved out and has gone to school and work but they think she was horrible then. What is wrong with people??!!
