This is a String Quartet that does wedding gigs as a profession. They do not contract out other musicians to do the weddings. I did ask him these questions before hiring them. I do feel that he wanted me to add on the cocktail hour after I sent the deposit. Everytime I speak to him he says do you need us for the cocktail hour as well since we will already be there for the ceremony. Each time I reply no, just the ceremony. I think I have not received my contract in hopes that they are hired by someone else for both so he can make more $$. Trust me, I am mad at myself for sending a deposit without having a contract in hand. I should know better than that!!
Why the hell a musician would do that boggles the mind. When you make a commitment to something--especially when you already have half of the cash in hand--you do it. I can't believe he is trying to talk you into hiring them for the cocktail hour, too--that is VERY shady in my humble opinion.

sounds like you already know what you should do... god forbid they just didnt show up at your wedding... at that point, you could only really blame yourself since you already sense they are not dependable.... start calling around for someone else... and if there really is no one else you like that can do it for your day, re-evaluate if this is this a 'must' on your list? i wouldnt go with the orginal vendor either way

I wouldn't trust the original vendor at this point. I would definitely gather any correspondence you have with them in writing...hoping you have something, along with your cancelled check. I would then get in touch with him, ask for a refund (you may not get it) and let them know if they do not refund it, you will write about your negative experience on every bridal board out there and other boards as well. Going forward, I would make all initial deposits in person and get them in writing.

I have tried calling them all week and no calls returned. I did receive an email though Friday night that states ' We have been extremely busy so thanks for resending your info. Your contract will be sent out shortly. When I inquired about my contract in March he sent me the same email. I agree that I can no longer trust in him. Even if I received my contract tomorrow, it still does not mean they will show up at our wedding. I will begin a new search this week for strings. I also will attempt to get my deposit back . I did save every email we ever sent to each other which I have printed out already. Thanks for all the advice!!

I would definitely get your money back. I used the Vintage String Quartet who is a vendor on here and they were absolutey amazing. Andrew and Rebecca were so easy to work with and on the day of my wedding, i felt like i knew them. They were definitely one of my favorite vendors from the day of!!
