Vent! and Warning!
Good morning,girls! I just have to vent about a 'sucker expo' we went to last night! Be aware...
Bottom line: Bridal parties paid entrance...but everyone at bar had buffet the brides had to pay for...was bachelorette expo but 'regulars' at bar(who didn't pay!) won prizes...large portion of prizes...including grand prize...were not awarded during expo hours..perhaps not at all!
Late yesterday afternoon, FFIL went to get his tux and they gave him flyer for 'Bachelorette Expo.' Advertised to be held at a Yaphank Tavern, it said Vendor Showcase 7 - 10, complimentary buffet and cocktails..vacation giveaways w/airfare to a lucky bride, raffles and givewawys from participating vendors and a list of 30+ vendors.
Becasue we're all on diets One of my BM called and they said it was going to be a big buffet...salad, pasta, chicken, veggies.
Sounds too good to be true...and it was!![]()
When we got there, we were asked to fill out a card for the raffles and TO PAY $5 FOR THE BUFFET. OK, we did it...must have misunderstood...

Most (about 28) of the vendors were there...some on a deck, but but most in a parking lot with very few lights! It seemed like each had given at least one raffle prize...a long table on the deck was FULL of prizes!![]()
They said raffles would be drawn every 15 minutes. Expo started at 7 first raffle was drawn at 8:20. Oh! forgot to mention...there was the 5 of us and only one other group of about 7 people...we thought we had really great odds of winning!![]()
Next raffles about 45 minutes later..people who were just at the bar...not part of the expo were winning! One girl (not a bride) went up to the DJ and said I'd like to hear (some song) and win a basket...He played the song and said her name and said she won a basket and told of the coincidence...song & basket! Too bad she didn't have the $5 entrance bracelet on and no drawing was done![]()
Buffet was one 18' platter of sliced peppers and carrots with small bowl of dip, one tray of pasta with sauce and one tray of rice with pieces of chicken in it. Would've been enough for the 12 or so of us...but it wasn't just for the expo...was for anyone who was at the bar. So basically we sucker bridal people paid for the buffet and noone else did!
At ten all the vendors were gone...we were waiting for rest of raffles to be drawn (there were at least a dozen+ left!)...especially the trip! Well, we were told that they had no idea![]()

about the rest of the prizes...the ten that were on the table... (large fruit basket from fresh fruit bouquet...4 Mary Kay $50 gift certificate...basket from lia sophia jewelry...rent-a-chef basket...envelopes and inner envelopes done by ez calligraphy...20% off Tania's hair extension certificate...can't remember what else!) Then...out from under the table...YES UNDER THE TABLE...came more certificates and a pair of bridal stocking (beautiful)!![]()
When asked, they said they would be using them for future games...maybe later that night (expo ended at 10 it was now 10:15!) and the trip wouldn't be given until 11 (that was only after pushed...me thinks someone at the bar will be taking the trip!)![]()
