FH is buying a new car this week, so we just called to get it insured, and now, for our two cars, we're paying $5000 a year for car insurance.
We both have great driving records; it's just because we live in Brooklyn. UGHHHH! By next June, we will have spent $7500 - that's a quarter of our wedding budget - just on insurance!
Sorry, just needed to vent.

Re: Vent - Car Insurance
True, true. But I can't help thinking about everything in terms of the wedding. $7500 is so much! But I do it even for littler things. Like, a few days ago FH bought a couple of XBOX games and was so excited to try them out, but I was like, 'take them back! You don't need them! They're the cost of three-quarters of a person at our wedding!'

Re: Vent - Car Insurance
Do your parents live on LI? Maybe you can use their address for your car insurance. My insurance is $1400 a year and that's for full coverage on 2 cars.

Re: Vent - Car Insurance
yeah car insurance does suck! it is so much cheaper depending on where u live...the closer to the city, the higher it goes! i moved a few minutes away from my parents towards the city and it went up a few hundred just for that!

Re: Vent - Car Insurance
When I lived in Binghamton, my car insurance was $1100 for the YEAR. And I was only 21 then. When I graduated, I thought nothing of giving the insurance company know my new address (figured I'd need the bills mailed to me at home in brooklyn, right?) and that day, my insurance jumped from $1100 to $5200. Unbelievable! That was State Farm, and I've since shopped around a lot, and know that Geico is the cheapest for me at $2600 a year, but now that we'll have two cars, it's almost doubled and is about $5000 again.
I wish I had relatives who live nearby in cheaper-to-insure areas, but I don't. And I won't register with a relative who lives in another state or somthing, because I know someone who did that and she got into an accident here in brooklyn, and the insurance company investigated and sued her. This insurance thing is driving me nuts - we're a young engaged couple and we need the money!
Thanks for listening to me vent, though, you've all been really nice.

if you have a good insurance agent..they can get you tons of discounts
we got ours to say we were married so we got the discount for that
since we live together and have a joint acct..it was easy for us to do that
