I'm sorry that you have to deal with this craziness. Maybe you both should sit down and talk to her. If your parents are paying the entire bill, she can't make you do anything she wants. It's YOUR wedding. I'm sorry hun, hope it all works out.

Wow!! I feel so sorry for you!! THis must be so tough!! I can´t believe she actually flipped saying that she can´t believe she has no control. I would´ve said right then EXACTLY!! YOU don´t have control over these decisions, WE do!! But you also want to try to ease things out because you will be dealing with her forever!!
I say maybe FH should talk to her. Mothers somehow always think its the fdils fault. He could explain that while she is free to give her opinions you guys will take them as just that. Opinions. You will take them into consideration but ultimately you guys will decide together exactly what you want to do and she has to respect that decision, wether she agrees with it or not.

i can totally sympathize with u... We are going thru the same thing re: using an officiant and not getting married in a church.... Luckily FH has been telling them to back off. If your parents are paying and they just want u to be happy stop filling in-laws on your decisions. I told FH that if his parents did not back off that I would be more than willing to hop a plane and have my family (and of course his brothers and close friends) meet us there and let them know we got married without them. Either they can be there and let us be happy or not be there at all. it was there decision. They are still pains in the a$$ but they have let up a little(very little) bit. I'm very sorry sweetie, and I understand. My FMIl actually was the reason FH canceled our wedding 12 days before we were to get married! I have no words of wisdom, but I hope everything works out.
