I'm so annoyed! FH and I decided our rehearsal dinner would be just parents, siblings, and bridal party, which is 42 people including spouses!! FMIL asked if her brother, FH's uncles and godfather, could come. I said no, because we have 6 other sets of aunts and uncles, all travelling from a distance. I just got our hotel list and this uncle made a reservation for the night of the rehearsal dinner, which leads me to belive FMIL told him YES! Of course, FH won't say anything to his mother, so now I am stuck to deal with this!

I would tell FMIL that is she want to invite her brother, then other aunts and uncles need to be invited, and she needs to pick up the tab for these people.

I would put your foot down and make it clear, they its only those involved in ceremony.

Well - here's the kicker - she's paying for the dinner up to a certain amount and then we're paying for the rest. I don't want to end up paying for all of these extra people!! Besides, I don't think it really matters that she's paying because my parents are paying for the whole wedding!
