vent: my now mildewing apartment

vent: my now mildewing apartment

So after the rainstorm swept through here like a damn hurricane two nights ago, my entire bedroom and livingroom were really damaged by leaking (I'm blaming the people upstairs...I swear they left their windows open and it came through our apartment ).

In any case, my carpets are SOAKED - beyonddddddd soaked, actually. I had to move everything out from under my bed and put it in my livingroom so that I could work on drying out the carpets. I moved all of my furniture too. I've been doing craploads of laundry so they don't get all mildewed (anything within 5 feet of the windows got drenched, including our hamper full of clothes).

So I finally get everything cleared out this morning so that the building's maintenence crew can come in and soak up all the water and dry my carpets. Also, our entire wall is going to need to come out - its all bubbled, cracked and STILL leaking - even though it isn't raining anymore. I had to take off and stay at home to take care of this, as I was told it was going to happen this morning.

I got a phone call 20 minutes ago that the EARLIEST they can come is FRIDAY! Everything will STINK of wet/mildewing carpet by then!!! Are they OUT OF THEIR MINDS!?

I'm so angry I can't even speak. If it starts getting moldy (the window sill and molding) I'm going to get sick - I just freakin know it.

I don't know who to call because my building superintendent is out of town and the guy filling in for him was the one who told me FRIDAY!

Do you think that will help?

It might keep the air moving about, I dont know if it will help fight mold but it might help the smell

Thank you, you sweet helpful BOTW

Right now I'm burning like 8 million candles to cover up the smell.

Im so sorry you have to deal with this...

I think the air purifier will def help but you need a heavy duty one.

I am so sorry to hear that! Go to Sears or Home Depot and buy a dehumidifier. It would help now and then you can always sell it on craigslist or something. I would dry things out a big quicker.

Again, I am so sorry!

Sorry 07 crasher here, I would recomend getting a dehumidifier and a wet/vac. I have had this problem in the past. Also make sure that they use either and industrial carpet cleaner or have them rip it out and replace it. Regular carpet cleaners just clean the carpets not the padding underneth. Sorry you are having such troubles

Aww no problem and good luck! I know when my mom's beasement was flooded last year, she had to REPLACE all the rugs and padding and the floors were bleached to prevent mold. Get your landlord on that!!!

Oh Bonnie - that is unacceptable!!! What if you had children???????

I would be so angry too!!!! What the hell are they doing that they can only get to you by Friday?

If you're up for it - I would rent a rinsinvac (sp?) from like Home Depot and start doing your carpet yourself and stick your super with the bill...

That suucks Bon! I'm so angry with you!!!

Ugh!! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this!! I would definitely try to rent a wet-vac to get some of the water out before Friday-- and give your super the bill!! I can't believe they're making you wait that long.

yeah i was also goign to suggest a wet vac. the only thing i can think of to soak up what water is sitting in there. the clothes you did wash are they safe?

maybe put them in closed plastic containers or bags, to prevent any more moisture from affecting them.

im soooo sorry...

Bon that *****!!! I would demand that the super come and try and live in those conditions until Friday. Him making you wait that long is unacceptable. I'll get on the horn right now if you want and work my Kim-The-B!tch magic (Aaron HATES when that girl comes out, but it has a 75% success rate ).

I would definitely let him know that you will be purchasing the appropriate things necessary (wet vac, dehumidifier, ect) and sticking him with the bill since he insists on no earlier than Friday. AND you will be getting in touch with the building manager or whoever is his boss to let them know that he made you wait in very unhealthy and unlivable conditions.

Hang in there girlie! Try and stay dry!!!!!
