FH and I decided we would only invite people with guests if they were in established relationships due to financial and capacity constraints (we already have 260 on the list and RH only holds 250).
A lot of my single friends have indicated that they are EXPECTING to be invited with a plus one, even though they're not dating anyone!
I don't mind inviting significant others, even if I haven't met them. But at $150+ per plate its a little obnoxious to just invite some random person, especially when these people will have a ton of friends there.
So presumptuous and rude.

You need to do what you feel comfortable with. Let them think what they want!

I am in the same situation. I am not writing “and Guest” on the invitations of people who do not have a significant other.

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I had a rant about this earlier. I don't get why people expect things. My friends go out ALL the time to parties and events by themselves, I don't see why they can't go to a wedding 'alone' meaning alone w/ 50 of their friends.

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I am having a very small wedding so for me keeping the guest count down is very important. If my friends are not in serious relationships, they are are not getting a 'and guest' invite.

I'm nervous that even if I don't put 'and guest' people will assume that they can bring someone anyway... I hope not.

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I am doing the complete opposite, I am hoping the few single people I invite will bring someone because I will then have an even number of people to place at each table.. Its easier to work with couples than just single people here and there. If I didn't want someone to bring a 'guest', then I just wouldn't invite that person to begin with!
A lot of that sentiment also comes from the fact that I hated not being invited to weddings when I was single. I hated that feeling and have no desire to exclude people who want to come alone or bring the guy they are currently dating..

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
Our guest list is out of control, having included alot more people than we thought and still leaving some out. We're not including guests for people who aren't in an established relationship either. I hope they'll understand!

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I really wish I could invite 1/2 my list without a guest because I am up to 300 people. But, I think it actually offends people and I dont have it in me to do it. On the other hand, my mother thinks it's fine, so I dont care if she invites her guests without a date...I dont know 1/2 of them anyway

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I'm inviting everyone with a guest b /c I just feel bad inviting some with guest and not others. I know some of the single ppl won't bring anyone anyway but they'll feel better that they actually have an option.
With that, I would just do what YOU're comfortable with.

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
I can see both sides...I always thought any adult should be invited with a guest. Especially if they don't really know anyone else at the wedding.
However...when I started planning mine...and knew these random people would cost me $1,000...I put the kabash on that!!!!

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
i was really annoyed over this too. FHs friends, actually the groomsmen are not dating anyone & i didn't see a need to invite them with a 'guest.' one day we all started talking about the wedding & some of them where insulted. so i spoke to my parents about it (they are paying for the RH) & they said that i was wrong. they are adults 26, 27 & 28 years old & even if they are not seeing anyone they should all be invited with 'guests.'
one of the guys said that nothing is worse then going to a friends wedding where 95% of the people are couples & you are standing there alone. then i realized how rude i was being.

Re: vent: people expecting 'and guest'
if your really adamant about not having random 'and guests' then let your friends know that this is not an open wedding that they can invite whomever they want lol im sure they would at least understand a little if you told them straight out your reasoning behind it
