Fh's cousin has been evil to me since we started dating (3 + years ago). At first it didn't bother me that much, because she's BF with his ex-girlfriend and i get the whole stand by your friends thing... but seriously that's olllllllllllllllldddddddddd news- they've been broken up wayyy longer than they were together, and she's still a total b*tch!
She's getting married in Tampa in March and of course we have to go, but i'm dreading it b/c the ex- is going to be a bridesmaid and I'm worried they'll be all 'mean girls' on me.
to top it off she decided on Monday that it's now going to be a 'black tie optional' wedding. WHO MAKES A DECISION LIKE THAT A MONTH BEFORE HER BIG DAY??!?!? was she not planning her wedding the whole time???
I bought this really cute betsey johnson dress thinking it was going to be a normal non-NY wedding. I probably already know the answer to this, but is there anyway I can get away with wearing this, or do i have to go buy a second, fancier dress?
part of me wants to say f-you and wear it, but she's nasty enough already i don't need to give her a legitimate reason not to like me... and as superficial as it is i want to look at least 10x's better than his ex.
Thanks for getting this far, and for your opinion!
edit...ughh the pic of the dress won't post... but here's a link to it if you don't mind looking. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59632306@N05/5456111585/

I know!!! she just posted it on her wedding website, and it might be on the invitations, which FH's mother said were just mailed out this week.
...can you believe how behind she is????

Re: VENT/ Question
I think you should wear whatever you want. Now with that being said, in reality, I would probably buy another dress. It's so messed up that she treats you like that though!

Re: VENT/ Question
I would get a fancier dress, especially if it's on the invitation. You don't want to make the tension worse. Be the bigger person.

Re: VENT/ Question
I didn't look at your dress but I say if it's not as dressy as it should be & you don't want to buy another dress, why not dress it up with some jewelry, get your hair done and get some hott shoes! Then maybe it'll be ok?

Re: VENT/ Question
You don't even want to go, so........I would go with the 'OPTION' & wear what I have. She is going to dislike you no matter what you wear. So what do you have to loose.

Re: VENT/ Question
check and see what the invites have written on them about the black tie optional part. while i think the dress is really cute sor like a sunday out or if you had to dress up somewhere, i would never wear that to a wedding, even a non NY one because i think it would be too casual. I would buy another dress.

Re: VENT/ Question
its a really cute dress and perfect for a daytime wedding or even your shower and since you already spent the money on this one, i wouldnt buy another till i checked if one of my girlfriends had a fancier dress they could loan me. since there is already tension btw you guys, having to spend the $$ on a second dress is only going to make you resent her more. i'd check all possible options before shelling out more money but thats just me and im very cheap lol

Re: VENT/ Question
It's a cute dress and you COULD wear it if you wanted to. My wedding was 'black tie perferred' and people came in cocktail dresses. Actually a lot of people came in cocktail dresses. I think the people who were actually wearing long dresses looked VERY nice and elegant but stuck out because of all the cute cocktail dresses.
ANYWAY, I think you can get away with this dress. It's in Tampa so she might have done it for the same reason my cousin put it on her invite, she was scared if she didn't put that people could possibly come in dress plants and polo shirt and she didn't want that. The 'optional' tells you that you should dress up but it doesn't have to be a prom dress. Wear the dress but make sure your FH wears a black suit with a white shirt and dark tie.

I totally agree! I would look at this as an opportunity to strut your sexy @*** around for everyone to see. While you're at it, kill them with kindness. 'Everything is GORGEOUS. We're so happy for you guys.' Same with the ex. Prove that you're cuter, sweeter, and clearly the winner of this round.
Ooh, I sound so shallow right now... but I still say go for the fancier option.

Re: VENT/ Question
I couldn't find the yellow dress at Macy's (boooo) and FH didn't love it- he didn't think it was grandparent appropriated (double booooooooooooo)
so i bought this, because i thought it was pretty and also a little more demure... but idk if i love it or if it's even dressy enough. Should I return it and keep looking for something a *little* sexier??
Argghhh this wedding is more stressful then my own!!
