My FH have been engaged for over a year, and I FINALLY convinced him to set a date- we decided on Columbus Day Weekend 2011. My entire side is traveling from out of state (pick a state east of the Mississippi and I probably have someone coming from there) and thought we would get a better turnout of guests if we did over a holiday (3-day) weekend. I have always wanted a fall wedding in New York, and my FH just doesn't want it in the summer. We started looking this weekend at RH when the last one we saw on Saturday told us she was surprised we picked that weekend since it was an interfaith wedding. When we asked why- she informed us its Yom Kippur that Saturday. I'm upset now because I was sooo excited to have finally set a date.....and now we have to change it. He wants to do Labor Day, but I feel people make plans with their own families for Labor Day (and its not too fall-y in New York). I am considering October 16th, but once more all my family would have to take off that Monday....I need some advice!!

Re: Vent Session....
I'm sorry that you're going through this frustration!
I'm also a fellow Fall 2011 bride.
I'm not too familiar with the holidays and how they're scheduled but what about the 1st weekend in November?
I'm considering 11/5/2011; and just by waiting two weekends I'm getting great rates and awesome availability RH's.
Sorry if I wasn't much help; but just wanted to say sorry and hope that you can come to new agreement as far as which date to wed!

Re: Vent Session....
Hey I'm sorry you are frustrated with this! Trust me I know how you feel. FH and I picked a holiday weekend in 2011 (New years weekend) and I was really stressing b/c i figured people have plans with their own family and may have to take off monday since our wedding is on sunday.
I eventually had to accept that my good friends and family will come regardless of what weekend I have it. Plus doing it a holiday weekend you may worry that they have their own plans but the thing is if you tell them a year in advance they can work in a mini-vacation for your wedding and it shouldnt matter if its a holiday weekend. I have all of FH's fam and friends coming from Puerto rico and honestly they don't mind taking monday off since they know so far in advance. I don't think you should worry. Find the date that is best for you both and go with it!!
