Vent - small wedding

Vent - small wedding

We're having a mini-destination wedding, only 2 or 3 hours from Long Island, but most people will have to stay the night (who wants to drive home 2 and a half hours from Connecticut at 10:30 PM?). Our room block expires next week, and I did a head count of people who are coming... and it's at 67. This makes me really sad. I knew my wedding would be small, but it's not like I'm getting married in the Carribean or anything. We invited a little over 100. Some were longshots - his whole family is in California, and I have friends in England and across the US - but still, 67? So by the end of the night, I'll have 10 people out on the dance floor with me?

People keep saying, 'oh, small weddings must be so much easier,' but I don't see how. I had to find a hall, flowers, DJ, invites, dress, etc. just like everyone else. And since we knew the wedding would be small, we're spending A LOT of money per person, so it's not like our wedding is any cheaper.

Sorry to sound like such a whiner, but I just feel like this is supposed to be the best day of my life, and no one will be there to see it.

Did you already send out your invites? I see your getting married in June & just not sure how you are coming to that final # of 67.

I'm sure you close family & friends will make the trip. CT is not far at all!! Enjoy your day & the planning and small or big it will be an amazing day!

Thanks.

Invites don't go out for another 6 weeks, but almost everyone who is coming will be sleeping over, and I have the exact count for that. You're right though - I never know who may decide to just come up for the day.

Dava - you yourself said most might have to stay...are there 20 or so people that might not stay...do they all need rooms?

There are also alot of people, I AM ONE...who are monday morning quarterbacks.....and might be waiting till the last minute.

If you feel more comfortable, maybe have mom or even you, give a quick courtesy call or an email, that anyone who needed hotels rooms, theres one week left for the block!

its too early to tell then. Dont forget alot of ppl wait to do things and especially if they didnt get invites yet, its VERY possible not everybody blocked their rooms yet. Plus if i was going to a wedding in CT, its not necessary i would stay overnight, i would even think of driving back home. Just wait until you get your rsvp's...no matter what, it will be an amazing day though...having 67 people who blocked rooms before your invites even went out is a pretty good number. Theres ppl who still dont do these things even after rsvp date lol

I'd rather have 67 of the closest people in my life there for my special day, than 120+ acquaintances and distant relations! Your day will be WONDERFUL because each and every person attending is there for YOU and FH

i know you are sad but trust me, on that day you wont care if there are 80 or 800 people as long as you are there with your DH

DH wanted to add afterhours to our wedding and have it end until 2:30 - I was SO nervous that no one would stay that late and i would be stuck there by myself

guess what? in a way, i was kind of right. At the end of the night - probably the last 45 minutes. . . DH had to deal with a drunk guest that was insisting on driving home and i was on the dance floor with the remaining guests

our PARENTS went home LOL you know what i was left with? less than ten of my closest friends with their dates were left on the dance floor with me

my worst nightmare had come true right? no one stayed but you know what - it is one of my favorite memories from my wedding - we had so much fun just dancing and being silly and i absolutely loved it. . .some people barely get to see their friends at their weddings bc of obligations - i got to hang out with my mine and have an awesome time!!!

so try not to worry about it . . . it will be totally different when it is actually your wedding day

Re: Vent - small wedding

Thank you all so much for putting it in perspective for me. You're right, it's not about how many people are there, it's about who is there, and my family and closest friends are all ready, willing, and excited to come.

I just needed a dose of reality. Thanks again.

I am sorry- its so disappointing when people you expect to come dont. But since you havent sent out the invites yet, you really dont know for sure who is coming and who isnt. A lot of people procrastinate, some may be reminded when the invite comes, some might have forgotten. A lot of people dont even think about making travel plans until the last minute (so opposite of me, but to each his own). Everything will be great...your wedding will be wonderful!

i think a lot of people are very last minute.. so don't be suprised if people end up in a scurry to book rooms..

and like Kim said.. you'll be in good company so be happy!

Aww don't worry so much, your wedding day will be amazing and i'm sure you'll be having so much fun and so happy that you won't be counting how many people are there. As long as your FH and family are there, that's all that matters.

Look at it this way, the economy is terrible right now, people just can't spend now the way they used to. Especially since you are saying that some people are from California, it's ALOT to swing for a plane ticket, hotel, transportation to/from wedding, formal clothes and still be able to give you a gift....it's alot. Try to be understanding, i'm sure they all would love to be there but it's just not practicial for them. Don't take it to heart.

aww i can see where you are coming from I would initially be disapointed also (it's normal to feel this way) I know people say smaller weddings are intimate - but there really is truth to that- my sister invited a little over 120 people and ended up having about 80 people it was really nice because everyone got to mingle with eachother the cocktail hour was excellent and I remember almost every detail of it and everyone stayed on the dance floor- it was very memorable
you never know you still have some time so the turn out may just be a little more do you have anymore people you can invite ?
