Vent . . . sorry this is a long one (had to get it out)
Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I posted about this promotion that I was getting to manager, and how I was afraid of peoples reactions. Well the announcement went out and upper management was trying to prepare me for what was to come. At first it wasn’t so bad, some people congratulated me, and many didn’t say much, but I didn’t let it get to me. It’s been about three weeks now, and I haven’t fully transitioned to my new position, but I feel like I am working with a bunch of 12 yr olds. People who I considered close work friends look at me now as if they have never seen me. I say hello and they just keep walking by me. I tried to laugh it off at how immature they were all behaving, but after a while it really gets to you. I work for a Fortune 500 company, and I am absolutely shocked at how these grown adults are acting. People my mothers age who are whispering behind my back and giving me the silent treatment!! Can you believe how unprofessional people act in Corporate America today. I am trying really hard not to care, but I am not as strong as I come across and I go home and just break down.
Normally I would just come and mind my business and get my work done, but now I have to train one of them. Now this is a girl who got married in September, and I felt bad for her bc she has a very SMALL circle of friends (just 2) and they weren’t doing anything for her bachelorette. So I got together with someone else from work and we took her out. I can’t figure out why she’s mad either, bc along with my promotion, she was promoted to my old position. I have to sit with her for hours at a time while I talk and try to be friendly and she sits in my office with the sour puss on her face. These people are just draining me. I woke up this morning not wanting to come to work, I’ve never in my life felt like I do now about my job.
Sorry to babble like this, but I really just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

these people are ridiculious, their obviously jealous and threatened that someone young who hasnt been there very long can make such a positive impression and advance quickly. People sometimes think that seniority should preceed over experience or potential of a person. It'll get better, being nasty takes effort, it won't last forever. As for the girl that your working with, talk to her and clear the air. Being in that kind of environment isnt healthy.

people are ridiculous sometimes...!!! I am sorry you are going through this but this is what they want.. they want to make you feel bad for doing well at your job.. and they are made because its not them.. well tough craap... you should be very proud of yourself for working to get where you are today and if they cant deal with people getting promoted then they shouldnt be in a company that does that for people!!!!1

I'm so sorry to hear this!! I was in a similar situation and the way I handled it was to kill them with kindness. I'm sure you're already doing that, but it will pay off!! Everything happens for a reason, always remember that, and everything will work out just fine!! Obviously you were promoted because of your intelligence and professionalism, something that the other people in your office probably don't have as much of. Just keep that in mind and keep your head up!! You deserve it!!

Ugh this *****! Well to say the least- SCREW THEM! Don't let it get to you. They are jealous. You must have deserved this position because they did hire you for it- and these co-workers of yours are threatened. Let it go and keep doing your job the way you have always been doing it.

im really sorry that people are acting like that...it is unfortunate that they are jealous and not happy for you. maybe if you try addressing the girl that is acting like a grump and explain to her that bc her and you have a new position, she needs to cooperate with you, bc you know how its supposed to be done.
we are all very proud of you and you shouldnt let these idiots get you down!

Sorry you have to deal with this. I would talk to the girl you are training, since you seem kind of close with her. Explain that you didn't go after this promotion yourself and you aren't sure why people are all bent out of shape and how you thought she would be happy for you. It can't hurt.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I know that it's a copout, but it is ONLY work, and all you have to do is come and go and make sure your work gets done. It can really get you down when everyone in the office is 'against you'. But try to leave it in the office... enjoy your time while you're home and don't let it get to you after you step out that door to leave for the day! GL!!

You are allowed to babble. And what they are doing is so childish. But, it's the truth...people DO NOT GROW UP MENTALLY... they just look older. Sounds like hs all over again...
Do not take it seriously and KILL THEM WITH KINDNSS!!!!!!! True... I promise!

Wow I can't believe that adults can be so ridiculously jealous like that.
It's hard when you get that sickening feeling and you start to dislike going to work....I know how you feel Anna I had the same problem at my old job.... I hope it gets better
