Vent: Why can't people MTOB and let me plan my darn wedding?
As some of you know, I already bought my Flower Girl two dresses--one white and one ivory. My FG lives in VA, so I've been holding on to both dresses until I find my dress. This way, she doesn't see either and doesn't fall in love with one or the other until I am sure it will match my dress. Anyhow, I ordered both dresses from Macy's a few weeks ago when they were having an awesome sale. I told FG's mother all about them and sent pics. She loved the ivory dress, which was also my favorite. I thought we were all set--until...
Last night, I get a text from the FG's paternal grandmother (who lives in NY). She said she was shopping with the FG and saw this gorgeous dress and FG loved it--so she bought it. She never asked me what color I wanted the FG's dress to be, and never asked the FG's parents either, and knew that I planned on buying the dress from the get-go. The real kicker is she bought the EXACT same ivory dress that I already bought. The same dress I didn't want my FG to see until I was certain...and had planned on mailing to her as soon as I found my dress.
I'm not sure if I am overreacting, but I was really annoyed by this. I felt like she was seriously overstepping. I didn't know what to say. And then she texted me, saying that I 'could always buy the shoes and accessories.' And that just sent me over the edge. So, now she ruined the surprise for my gift to my FG--and thinks she can dictate what my gift will be? Bridezilla button--activated! Unlike grandma, I won't get to visit my FG again in the near future, so taking her shoe shopping isn't as easy for me as it would be for her. And it wouldn't be nearly as special for me either--and I'm the goshdarn bride! LOL
Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it off my chest before I exploded. I just composed myself enough to text her back, explaining (as nicely as I could muster) that I already worked this all out with FG's mother (her DIL) weeks ago and that I fully intend to give her the dress--when I decide which one it will be....and I got no reply. So, I also texted FG's mother and she replied that grandma never consulted her either and that FG was told weeks ago that the dress would be coming from me. She said FG will love whatever I send her and that she'll forget that ivory dress by the time I send her whichever dress I decide on--which could still be the ivory anyhow. That made me feel better. But I still don't know if this will cause weirdness with the grandma. And she's invited to the wedding. Ugh!
