vent: why don't people appreciate kindness?

i'm going with tea-length dresses. the jr bridesmaids' dresses were long. i thought i would be helpful (read STUPID) and offered to take the two jr bms with me when i went to get my dress altered.

a friend of my mom is a former wedding dress maker, and she offered to alter the dresses for FREE. yes, you read it!!!! for FREE!!!!!

i offered to pick up the two girls, drive them to manhattan (mind you, i live in CENTRAL NEW JERSEY) and i get sh!t for it.

i show up to pick up the second niece at 9am as scheduled. and my darling future in-laws are in THEIR PJS!!! my future sil, raises her voice at me, telling me that i didn't call to confirm!!!!!! (the nerve!!!) her husband say, 'yes honey, there was a message on the machine.' she pays him no mind and continues to tell me how she didn't know i was coming.

she looks at her phone saying that there's no caller id of the call. then she says, 'oh, yes. here it is.' BUT DOES NOT APOLOGIZE!!!!!!!

the ONLY reason i didn't tell her to go 'F' herself was because there were two ten-year-old girls in the room. at that moment, i realized that if i walked out, one of my jr bms was going to have a mis-matched dress from everyone else. so i said, 'i forgot something at home. this will give you time to get her together.' and i walked out.

when i came back, i didn't even go inside. i just honked the horn and had the girls come out.

NOT ONLY DID I TAKE THE GIRLS TO GET THEIR DRESSES FIXED, I ALSO FED THESE KIDS. NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE BOTHERED TO SAY, 'GEE, THANKS LIZ FOR SAVING US A BUTT-LOAD OF MONEY.'

what is it with people!!!!! i'm not expecting people to kiss my a$$, i just want a little respect and a thank you, once in a while.

Yeah, I hear you! It dosen't surprise me though. I find that there are more selfish and self-centered people in this world than I care to count. So I just do when I want to do and I don't expect anything in return. The universe has a way of paying you back 10fold for your kindness.

well its mostly because people suck, in general. I got into a screaming match on the lovely mta train on friday because a mother (about 30), her daughter and the mothers boyfriend were taking 6 seats. so i said excuse me, and the daughter (about 11 or 12) and her two bags sprawled all over didnt move....so i repeated excuse me again, and the mother starts yelling at me! um hello, i said excuse me and what i should have done was pulled the girl off the seat by her hair. Instead of her mother telling her to move, she yells at me. Not so long story, made long.....people suck!

look at it this way, you learned early not to waste your time on them because you are better than them! Luckily you are marrying the good one of the bunch!

I hear you sister, people, especially family members are so ungrateful and so hard to handle. I can not take being told how to have my wedding when I am paying for it. The nerve of people

you said it, these are the same people who turn around and tell you what a 'proper' wedding is supposed to be like.
