Venting....Davids Bridal in Carle Place

Am I over-reacting?
I've decided two days ago (thanx to my friends at LI Weddings) that I was not going to have my alterations done at Davids Bridal, where I orders my gown. Of course I didn't tell Davids this. So yesterday I went there (knowing already that I was going somewhere else for the alterations) and asked out of curiosity how much the alterations would be when i'm ready for them. They told me (as if I were bothering them) 'We can't tell you that. You'll have to find out when you bring the dress back'. All they could tell me was that the Hem alone would cost $100 + the alterations. Now i'm a size 4. They ordered me a size 8! Hence.....alot of alterations $$$$$$$$$$$$
So I paid for the dress and left.
Now I don't know much about prices for alterations but this WHOLE situation with Davids doesn't sound right to me. Thanx for listening. Sorry to ramble.

Why did you order a size 8??????? They definately aren't the most helpful there but so far I have had all good experiences (even with asking about alteration prices when I picked up my dress)

Which other David's store is better? Or is it ok to order online?

I say this on every David's thread I didn't order my gown at David's but if I did I would've done so at the Long Island City, Queens branch. The store is newer, looks better & is much more organized than Carle Place. the service was a whole lot better too, imho.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about David's Bridal, especially the one in Glen Cove (or around there). Anway, for those of you who haven't gotten BM dresses, make sure you check out netbride.com You give them the designer and the style # of the dress you want and they give you a price quote and how long it will take when they order them.
I found mine there and their price quote is at least 60 bucks less than the same exact dress in salons.
