vent...work, sinuses, etc

i have been suffering from constant severe sinus headaches, went to dr 2 weeks ago, no help. going to the allergist saturday to get to the bottom of it. but it is soooooo painful, and this week has been horrible.

yesterday was an awful day at work and of course when crazy things come up my boss is always conveniently on vaca, and then he called in sick to day. i left work at 6 last night, night too bad. but got a call and came back from 730-9 (had to leave FBIL's bday dinner). today is not much better, and my head is pounding.....
i need a drink

i've had 5 sinus infections is 9 months...finally went to the ENT, and yesterdy I had a CAT Scan of my head to see what is going on....did you have a CT scan? Could be helpful!

no not yet.... what did they find on the CAT Scan (if you don't mind me asking)?
my dr said when she looked in there it was all allergy related, have me 2 nasal spray and said if they don't make a diff in 10 days to see the allergist.... i am so miserable and i am leaving for aruba a week from 2morrow... i want to feel good then atleast

I had constant sinus infections and went to an ENT, did the whole cat scan thing, finally had the surgery a few months ago, I haven't had an infection since the surgery! It was so worth it.

Also, neti-pots really help, you can buy it over the counter.

Okay so before getting a CT scan which has the radiation of like 20 x-rays first maximize your medical therapy:

1nettie pots or just saline nasal spray
2an allergy pill like claritin, zyrtec or allegra
3a steroid spray such as flonase or nasonex
and/or
4a nasal antihistamine spray such as astelin or patanase

however if you have an acute sinus infection you may need antibiotics. You know you have this if you have facial pressure or pain, green or yellow nasal d/c, fever etc

dr was very sure that there was no sign of infection! i have been doing #'s 2-4 for 2 weeks so far.... not relief

ugh - my head has been killing me all week.

i would definitely see a specialist if its been 2 weeks and if you get them frequently. i had 12 infections in 8 months...it was pretty much just a constant infection...but since the surgery its been much better. surgery was my last option since none of the above steps were working, and of course i was hestiant about it, but i'm so happy with the results.

i myself had a CT scan a few years back and found i have cysts/pollyps on my sinuses which is why i always have infections. i was also told that the sinus surgery can be a waste of time and $$ due to it coming back...whether it be now or later. :(

eta: i am so not a fan of the steroid nose sprays. you really start to rely on them and you're not supposed to be on them that long

FH has the surgery to remove the pollyps. Didnt solve his problems at all. still always stuffed up.

I was lucky, I didn't have any pollyps. They can definitely come back after the surgery. In my case, they removed my adniods, a few cysts I had and widen my nasal passage.
