venue help

Hi Ladies,

Does anybody know of a place where I could have an outdoor wedding? (Besides wineries) This might sound crazy but I really want to find a field/park put up a tent and have my wedding. I want something laid back, I want cocktail hour food, not a sit down dinner or formal buffet. I want drinking and dancing the whole time. We would prefer LI but might be willing to travel if the place/price is right. Does anybody know of a place where I could have this? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

There's a place called the Tobacco Warehouse in Brooklyn, it's part of a park right in between the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge. It's got a great view and it's all outdoors, it has a structure to it but all open air space. Kind of hard to describe but we looked into it, it would be kind of hard since it's all outdoors, there's no kitchen and you would therefore need a creative caterer, I've seen some really great pictures from weddings there though.

See for yourself... very pretty!!

Yea, 'cool' and 'different' were what we were going for too, until my family hated my initial RH idea (the Foundry in L.I.C.) and my best friend said it looked like a jail cell! So much for creativity.

But since expanding my horizons and realizing how much money a place like that would have cost (be forewarned, doing what you have in mind typically costs a LOT, between tents, catering, renting everything from tables, chairs, linens, flatware, glasses, food and drinks!) we found that we both loved other types of places also and finally found Land's End which everyone loved. But I say if you can find a way to do it affordably, go ahead and do it, it's your wedding! And it will be memorable and people will leave talking about how you did it in a very 'you' way.

I had a tent wedding on the water in Hampton Bays...it was casual with a clambake style buffet...the place does not have a set menu...it is all custom designed for what you want....you can get more info & see pics in my review...HTH!

My wedding review...

Re: venue help

omg my college roommate is doing that! she is getting married next june up in the catskills if you are willing to travel... the website looks amazing... it's like a bed and breakfast and this tremendous if you're interested, i will find out details for you! i can't remember right now!
ALSO, look into your town parks system... i live in smithtown and you can get a park permit ($50 for 100 people) we have a park party every year... they also have several parks... and you can get a permit for alcohol! it doesn't cost extra either! i'm pretty sure you have to be a resident for smithtown, but look into your town's parks!
