They're not going to be anywehre near $100 pp on a Sat in prime season... if they do a day wedding at all. Do places that are one wedding at a time like that even do day weddings on Sats? I'm not sure they even all have that option.

THis is a tough one!

North Ritz Club in Syosset

Not too far out on the island, one wedding at a time, gorgeous grounds, amazing ballroom, not too many windows Oh and the food and service was fantastic.

definitely check out the north ritz.....ull LOVE it

i would definitely consider going to other halls and talking to them about friday night or saturday night prices. have you thought about changing the date? if you book two months later, you'll see a huge difference in prices.

i don't know what swan club quoted you, but they quoted me $60pp plus tax and grat for a friday night in november. i can't imagine that a saturday night is more than $80pp?

Have you considered looking into having your wedding at a hotel? Many hotels have stunning ballrooms, and alot of them are without windows. I believe the Garden City Hotel ballroom does not have windows.

Re: Venue help / ideas needed

i was JUST going to say the Garden City Hotel!!! No windows, beautiful ballrooms, perfect for out of town guests, great location, and no windows. however... no outside cocktail hour (MUST your fiance have that?) and the price may be higher than you're looking to spend.

My unsolicited .02 is try not to focus on day versus night. The beauty of light from windows is amazing photographs. Some photographers are natural light photographers and can get some pretty amazing shots. Once inside no one cares if it's day or night since it's the party, the spirit and the style which dictates how it's pulled off. We're doing a Sunday afternoon also to save money. Another option is have you considered a Sunday twilight? Cheaper yet you can have an afternoon ceremony and party that goes into sundown though not late enough to royally piss off your guests who have to go to work. We're getting married at de Seversky Mansion and I will tell you the ballroom is DARK even during the day. I concur it's nice to see a future groom here helping to make your day perfect.

Ok, Im going to reply to the new posts since my last post.

Woodbury Country Club -
Swan Club - both are mentioned in my initial post, she didnt like them.

north ritz - booked through December is what we were told.

Jericho Terrace - I believe she made an appointment for us to check it out

Garden City Hotel - just sent her the link to it.
hotels...I dont know if she would be fine with it.
As you all know by now, shes picky!
One of her complaints about Crest Hollow - 'It looks like a conference center'

If it was up to me, any of the venues we've seen would be fine.
But since Im fine with anything, I'll let her choose it.

>Have you considered having your wedding during the off season

Well, as we are both in our late 30s, we wanted to get married sooner rather than later (and start that family!)

Not having an evening wedding is not about the cost, its about availability.
I know most people book a year out, since we are a lot less than that its harder to find places available...but then again, it seems like its hard to find a place she likes!

> Friday night or sunday

I know if people really want to attend, they will, but we want to still be aware of other's situation. Afterall we could have a wedding in Iceland, but that would be rough for people. =)

But Friday is tough for me too, I have to be out of town for work Mon-Thurs, I dont want to take the chance that a delayed flight on Thursday will cause me to have problems on my wedding day.

>no outside cocktail hour (MUST your fiance have that?)

She wants:
Outside ceremony (depending on weather)
Cocktail hour - outside or inside, but if its inside, she wants it bright
Reception - inside, but 'dark' - night time feel.

Im feeling like Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally, whenever Sally orders her food...

Thank you all!

just saw this post after I did mine.

>Seversky Mansion

Thats the one at NYIT right?
I sent that to her yesterday, and I think she will make an appointment.

We are avoiding sundays because 1/4 of the people on the guest list will be flying in from out of town.
All my coworkers are flying in (since we all travel for work, none of them live in NY)

as for night vs day...you dont have to try to convince me!
=)

Shes the one who wants it to have a night/party feel.
for me, I prefer day...because Im more low key, I dont WANT a party feel. (I hate parties)
If it was up to me, it would be NO dance floor, just us sitting around with people hanging out on a couch after lunch.

But not going to happen.
Gotta invite cousins, aunts, friend of parents, etc...

But since its a one time thing, I'll suck it up and go with the flow

First of all your so good for doing all this work for her!!

& I figured I would just throw my hall into the mix lol... Timber Point CC in Great River

Not sure what you are considering 'too far' or really what type of feel she is going for..

I see that you factored out a Sunday wedding all together.. what about a friday (night) wedding?

Someone told me that if people are going to come they make the decision in the beginning & not by choice of what day you choose.

Remember that it is yours & your future wifes day & if it is the 2 of you paying for it then do whatever place fits your budget & that you are in love with!!

I wish you both a lot of luck on choosing a place!!

The Inn at NHP has the options of an outdoor ceremony, indoor/outdoor cocktail hour, and has a beautiful ballroom!!!!

How many guests are you having? Are you limited to only Nassau county? My hall is in Manhattan. It's a small afforadable venue. There is an outdoor (roof terrace & sunroom) area for CH and only 2 windows in the ballroom. If she wants a party feel, we had an after party at the bar next door.

Re: Venue help / ideas needed

just a thought... why don't you go down the list of all the wedding venues that people on this site have booked:

http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic-603586-1.html

hopefully one of them will have everything your fiance is looking for; if not, she may need to choose a place that has *most* of what she's looking for. i completely get people having a vision of what they want their weddings to be like and trying to make that vision come true (and i think a lot of the time that happens), but do you think your fiance will be able to accept something different than what she envisions? for instance, you mentioned she's very picky, and wants the outdoor cocktail hour - how would she react if it were to rain on your wedding day? it could happen, right?

btw, i understand your situation about out-of-town guests and wanting a day that'll work for most people. my fiance also works mon-thurs; and like you, at LEAST a quarter of our people are from out of town (he lives in atlanta right now, and his family & friends are all over the country), but we're doing a sunday wedding b/c the sat night we wanted wasn't available. that's where i believe that making sacrifices might be necessary. of course, which sacrifices to make (if any) is entirely up to you and your future wife. keep us posted on what you two decide!

and in winter it's dark by 5pm

Have you considered having your wedding during the off season (Jan.-March)? The cost is generally significantly lower and therefore you would be able to afford an evening wedding.

Re: Venue help / ideas needed

Ballroom at de Seversky is dark, trust me. She has to like vintage and not looking for contemporary glitz and mirrors. It's totally secluded off Northern Blvd and is stunning. The grounds are magnificant for that time of year and the photo opportunities alone will make her swoon. If you go, ask for Melissa Patron as your sales person. She's lovely and I prefer her over her colleague. Another DS plus is they don't charge their recommended vendors any fees as they are strictly regulated by the college aka we're not looking to screw you! It was the ONE and only venue I looked at and took FH to see it and that was it. In our case we are doing the 4 month plan and got a great deal for a Sunday wedding. Keep us posted!

out of curiosity, what are they charging at de Seversky per person?

I'm a new bride to be, and my cousin raved to me about this place.

We haven't yet looked at places, but our list so far consists of:

Woodbury CC
Foxhollow CC
Westbury Manor
Carlyle on the Green
Glen Cove Mansion
De Seversky Mansion
Village Club at Lake Success
Chateau La Mer

I just discovered this site, and thank you to everyone for all the info, even on just this thread alone.
you all are great!
any other info about the above and others like it, feel free to share your input!

Re: Venue help / ideas needed

I know the window thing but how about Bridgeview Yacht Club? They do one wedding at a time and aren't too far from Flushing. If you click the planning tab, there's a reception guide. You can search for places specific to what you're looking for, ie: one wedding at a time.

Re: Venue help / ideas needed

Check out one of the Lessings mansion locations. We looked at Vanderbilt Mansion @ Dowling and the ballroom was stunning and the outside view of the water was too.

If you want a waterfront wedding, I think daytime is perfect, as I think someone else mentioned earlier.

But you both need to be happy with everything. Good luck.
