Hi Ladies. I just found out that my venue is having trouble booking dates for Aug-October time frame. We recently suggested our venue to our friends who called and were quoted a price 4.5k cheaper than what we are paying. We contacted the owner and he said that because of the economy he's been forced to lower his prices to get the venue booked. We asked if he would be willing to work with us because we are also affected by the economy and he said no. We signed a contract so there is nothing we can do except walk away which we can not do.
What would you do?
BTW...we are getting married in the Hudson Valley so none of you have to worry.

i dont think theres anything you can do? You signed a contract...if you walk away you'll lose the deposit, no?
This happens with alot of different things and most places will not lower their profit margin because of economical changes once they have it in writing...

I would look into what the laws are up there for that county .. suffolk county up to 6 months before the wedding you can cancel your venue and get all but $100 back.. if its the same thing up there - I would threaten that and see if they cave (if you LOVE the venue) - if not I would want my money back and go somewhere else - if they are going to do that with you.. I would walk...

will you lose your deposit if you cancel? maybe you can threaten to cancel because he wont give you the price he quoted your freind and then he will probably drop the price
maybe you can ask him if you get someone to book would he give you something
example...your friends books her wedding...you get a free add on

I may be no help in saying this but yes, most places are forced to lower prices due to the economical issues.
I don't think there is much you can do except cancel but like the other ladies said- def look into the laws and see. If they see you are willing to cancel, they may be able to work something out. But again, a contract is a contract...

Where would you go about finding these laws? Also, no, it is NOT the garrison.
Heck, I'll walk if we don't lose the deposit. The deposit was twice what he is giving other off. So...I really can't walk if I can't get it back.
Yes, I've already tried the finders fee route. I'm going to hope something comes to light with that.
