Venue Minimums

Venue Minimums

Good morning ladies.

I booked a few venue appointments for the upcoming weekends! They were asking my minimum. This morning I was thinking.... Is there a down fall to giving a low minimum?

I said 120 but after all's said and done we'll probably have closer to 150 people, inviting around 175. So question, what's the postive and negative(s) to giving a lower minimum? Don't you pay 'x' per person for every person you go over?

A lot of my family is OOT so they may or may not come therefore am hestiating to bump up the min..

What minimum did everyone give and how many people do you think you'll actucally have attend?

Thanks, have a great FRIDAY!

I think it is better to have a lower minimum, this way you are not stuck paying for people who aren't there is you don't meet your minimum. You can always have higher, as long as the venue you pick and accomodate that number.

We have a minimum of 100, but we are expecting to have closer to 125-130.

The deal is the higher your minimum the better the price they give you per person....
BUT it is better to have a lower minimum than too high b/c then you'll have to pay for ppl who aren't there!
I believe the rule of thumb is 20% of invitees rsvp no.
We are inviting about 200 - 210 ppl and gave a guarentee of 150 and I'm expecting somewhere between 150 and 175...I have ALOT of OOT family so I'm assuming a larger rsvp of No than typical.

I agree... a lot of places we saw had a guarantee of 175... we told them to up that to 225 and they were able to get a better price. we are having a lot of people though and will have no problems getting to that 225 number, if you KNOW you are able to guarantee higher than what they tell you it might pay increase your min. you are paying for them anyway, might as well be at a cheaper price, but MAKE SURE you can guarantee that amount, bc you will be stuck paying for 150(if thats your minimum) even if you only have 100....

I didn't even know you could pick your own minimum...

our minimum for a saturday evening wedding is 130 and we are hoping for no more than 150 (we have 178 invited)

I am sure at some places you can't. we used it as more of a bargaining tool though at places. 'well if we can guarantee X amount, can you lower the price?'
we figured if we are having that many anyway, why not try to get it cheaper!

Agree... We ended up getting better deals guaranteeing 225-250

A lower minimum is better. Right now we have a 110 min. People will say no and then you will be stuck paying for people who don't show.

Same here.. We guaranteed 250 for one price and have the option to up it to 275 and get a lower price per person.. We'll probably do this since the guest list is at 360

Yup. We got a lot of extra's thrown in when we guaranteed at 225.

Re: Venue Minimums

check and see if they can do anything for you if you up your minimum to 150? It's not a huge jump as if you were to guarantee say the 175. You don't want to get too high and then get stuck with paying for people who suprisingly say no.

Re: Venue Minimums

We had to give a minimum of 150 but we gave 185 because we have a HUGE invite List.... At our Venue we pay pp after we hit them minimum.. Id rather not pay for heads that respond no later on

Re: Venue Minimums

my advice is to give the lowest possible number you can because if you DON'T meet the minimum, then some halls will switch you to a smaller room, or you will be scrambling to get people from your 'B' or 'C' list to come...

You will know more or less who will be 100% definite attendees at your wedding anyway. Better to be safe than sorry, JMO.

One one hand.. giving a low minimum gives less of a chance of not meeting it.

But, RH's tend to throw in more things the higher your min. is.

Re: Venue Minimums

ALWAYS,ALWAYS go lower. When I started looking I was saying 200 hundered and getting minimums of 185!! Then I had nothing to bargain with to get a lower price.

Then I said 150. The minimum i got for my hall is 135. I will probably guarantee 150 and get some things thrown in.

Start lower and when the quote you the price and minimum then ask 'what if I guarantee xx people?' and they will probably lower the price.
