I was not able to do this. Though I did try. BUT I did negotiate to get things thrown in that I wanted this way I felt like I got more for my money.

This. Some RH are just not willing to do the cash thing and risk their reputations, and they want a certified check or money order. But you can negotiate stuff like an addition to the cocktail hour or a pasta course, a dessert, some sort of upgrade, into the price to get more for your $.

While the RH might not accept a cash payment, many other vendors will and that can save you a bit of money

I am 90% sure we are going with the all inclusive package which comes with limo, photo, video, centerpieces and dj so there isn't much left I would need to handle on my own.

My hall did accept cash, to save on tax, and it ended up being $10 cheaper per person. It was great!

oh Good sound like it could go either way! doesn't hurt to try right! I would not mind more things added for free, like fh has always wanted sushi but that alot of money they won't throw that on! I could go for a Raw bar but again not going to toss that in! but saving money is always better!

I'm paying all cash and my 'per plate' price INCLUDES the tax and 20% service fee.

I asked a RH that question flat out.. I was told that because I have so few people that they couldn't do anything about the price if I paid cash. He said the more people you have the easier it is for the RH to 'hide' some of the money to save on taxes. Sounds weird but makes sense.. This same RH also told me a good way to save money is to agree to tell them ahead of time that you would be interested in selecting the sirloin steak instead of filet mignon for example. If they know ahead of time you will be choosing items that are of a lower cost to them they might negotiate a bit. Good luck!

oh this is very helpful! 1) we want the larger room which had a higher min and my ffil wants to invite people I've never met and mg fh doesn't even remember..... so our guest list went up to 200!! min req is 175 and 2) we are getting a buffet reception so many of I pick the pasta station over the carving station maybe he can work with me!!
thank u again

Re: venue negotiating
Is your FFIL adding that many people to FH half of the list, is he willing to pay for his guests above your target number of guests? My FFIL was very generous and said he would pay for his obligation guests ( like golf buddies) so we will not have to cut from our friends! Good luck I hope you work it out !

here's the prob with my ffil, one we don't really get along two he has ahabit of saying he well do something then just not do it. for example he didn't know what to get us for xmas last year so he pitted to give us cash for our cruise we just went on so we could pay for drinks and excursions and things like that. 2weeks before we left he said that's right I gotta give u guys your xmas gifts.......fh said goodbye we r leaving they said have fun and didn't give us a dime! came back didn't say a word about not giving us the money!now with that being said bye did say he will give us money to fh, idk if he ment money for his over flow our all good people.... I'm avoiding that Cconvo nc he isn't an easy man to talk to but I only her half *** stories from fh so I'm gonna have no choice but to do it my self!

I'm sorry to hear you don't get along well with FFIL, but you really want at least have a cordial relationship with FFIL if possible, they are family. As for the cruise money, IDK....but a wedding is different. And I looked at it this way, my FFIL would not want to hurt his son on such an important life moment.

We asked our RH about the cash for no tax and we were told no. We did get money off the viennesse hour because we booked at 150 minimum and our final number was 200. They also took out the carving station at our cocktail hour and let me pick three specialty stations instead.

I only got a reduction of about 3%. I got a better deal from my current/chosen venue when I told them our budget and the scheduling parameters set by our church. They came back to give me and FH the available options aligned with our needs including budget. With an all-inclusive and a 90 minute cocktail reception for a total of 5.5 hours, we are spending under $90pp. I hope that helps!
