Ok, my boss is leaving to go to NY to head up a new department and I asked to come with him. He said that they had put in for a headcount but were not hiring an assistant which I thought was strange but didn't think anything of it at the time.
Sooooooooo, I go down to check out the new job postings and there an assistant job for my boss posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One, I've been working for him for 4 years and always gives me rave reviews so why was I not given the opportunity to get first dibs on it. What it basically boils down to is that I'm not NY material and not good enough which is bull b/c I could blow away any assistant in NY.
I am furious over this and so mad at my boss for lying to me. Looks like its time to go back to school and get a specialized degree. Corporate America bites.
Sorry to vent on all of you but I am so upset right now.

thats really not fair! How is your relationship with your boss?? can you talk to him/her and ask why the decision was made or did he already tell you that you are not up to 'NY' ways??
Will you lose your job because of this?

Companies can be so unfair. Where I work,you don't get recognized for all your hard work but for how much you kiss everyone's butt. I'm not a butt kisser so my work always goes un-noticed by the big boss!

I know what you mean sweetie, I say this Corp America is not for me. Did you ask him anything after you saw the job posting. You are NY material and then some, don't let you not being offered the job let you feel any less than you are. They are probably going to hire the new person and pay them less, isn't that always the way it is. Chin up sweetie.

I'm located in Melville and my boss will be replaced with someone else who I actually know. Not a bad guy but he whines.......he is like a woman with constant PMS. I will be supporting the new guy.
I'm really getting a slap in the face and seeing what this company is really like - my boss and I have an excellent relationship and always thought it would help me, not hurt me.
So I'm going to go back to school take the one class I need to get my 2 yr. degree and then go back and get a specialized 4 year and let my company pay for it - then leave.
I'm so tired of the the bull**** that goes on around here - this was just the last straw. I'm an excellent worker and they are lucky to have me and my reviews say so.
This situation really hurts.

The worst part about it is that it is a ton more money than what I make and my job entails so much more than what is on the job listing.
Between this, the wedding and the house and trying to get a mortgage I'm at wits end. I want to take a day off but I can't b/c the girl who covers me is out until the 24th.
At Tuesday night's GTG I will need a drink.

I would confront your boss about the situation, but on the flip side, do you want to work for someone who doesn't want you to work for him/her?

Oh, I know my boss is lying b/c he won't look at me so I'm not wasting my breath. I'm too fabulous for this. NY couldn't handle me b/c every department would want me.
Shamma is right (as she always inspires) - I'm too good for this.
You ladies are awesome. I feel better already.
Maybe FH will feel so bad for me he'll take me shopping

why not apply for another job in the NY office and then when you get it rub it in your bosses face? Or better yet lay it on, saying that his recommendations were so instrumental, blah blah blah. Guilt him into a free lunch!
